I'm excited about the upcoming fall patent bags, but it occurred to me that I've never owned patent bags before. I did some research and know there's some drawbacks to owning lighter-colored patent such as, color transfer, stickiness, and fingerprints. I also read that Chanel won't service patent leather bags.

All of the above is preventable EXCEPT yellowing of the patent, unless you live like a vampire and only go out at night.

Have you experienced yellowing on your lighter-colored patent bags? Does it look really obvious and unattractive? I'm assuming it's not noticeable on black/really dark patent leathers. I don't want to spend a lot of $$ on something that will only look nice temporarily!

I'm surprised Chanel doesn't provide service for patent leather. I have a black WOC and amarante LV vernis. They do show fingerprints. Make sure Chanel gives you the cloth to wipe the fingerprints off. This works good for me. My mom has a beige LV vernis bag and has had no issues of fading or color transfer. Although I have seen some issues raised on this in the LV thread. May depend on how particular one is. GL with your decision!

I'm excited about the fall striped patent bags too! I love patent SLGs and classic flaps from Chanel and Louis Vuitton. I've never had any problems with them with the exception of a white patent keyholder I bought years ago from LV. Otherwise, all of my Chanel patents are holding up great. I would still stay away from white, off white or very pale color patents as any imperfections will be extremely noticeable. I think as long as you stick with opaque, saturated colors, you should be fine.
I've also never experienced any stickiness on my patent bags. Hth!

Agree with bluekit, totally stay away from the white, cream color. Those colors are dirt magnet! I don't think the stickiness bother me that much except when it comes contact with glass object. So you will be totally fine.

I read that Chanel can't re-dye patent leather. Basically once a stain sets in the patent, it's forever.

AmourCC bluekit To me, the burgundy and green stripe patent may be light enough where the yellowing would affect the color. I'm imaging the burgundy (which is really a mauve) would turn orange and the green would turn into yellow-green. I read another another non-Chanel thread that a person's light blue bag turned into turquoise. This is what I'm nervous about

Thanks for that. I am going to be more careful from now on.

I am so gonna go for the burgundy patent, but I haven't think about the yellowing. I had not encounter the yellowing, I have other bags and stuffs haven't turn in years. Now you have got me thinking. But as far as the pictures show, I think the burgundy or green will be just fine. Can never be too careful when it comes to a bag I want, I don't think that much, lol.

my Chanel patents have been holding up beautifully. i would stay away from white patents - if you want a white or beige bag i would go lambskin or caviar.

I have 2 patents, one of which is 12P green mini and I have really used it all summer, wipe it down every so often with a slightly damp paper towel and its PERFECT!
My other is a black patent SHW m/l that I have taken on umpteen vacations and literally abused it and it still looks new.
I LOVE PATENTS!

I believe the colors you've listed above are probably safe since the colors are quite saturated. One thing I've forgotten to mention is to avoid exposing your patent bags in direct sunlight for an extended period of time. Otherwise, they should be fine.

I have a white patent.. I am careful with it when i carry it and store it right back in its box.. No problems at all.. I will say that it is an older bag when the quality was a bit better than it is now

2 many Chanel bags!!
I have a patent bag from 2005 in dark orange. It holds up well. The key really is to put it as far away as you can from other dark colour "things".

Chanel does service patent bags so long as the issue has nothing to do with the patent leather itself!

Thanks for your responses! I guess I have to decide whether I'm too absentminded to take care of a patent bag. Or just go with the black!
