Default Shopping in Paris - Tax Refund issues
Anyone knows how long do we usually need to wait for the tax refund to be credited back to credit card?

My friend has helped me to buy a classic flap from Paris late May but she still hasn't got the tax refund yet.............

I think she also do credit card refund for other items she bought in Paris (not Chanel), so will refund shown in a big amount or in seperate lines?

thanks for your help~~~~

2 to 3 months. It takes ages, don't worry.

yes, normally 2-3 months. Just make sure she was able to have the documents stamped and mailed when she left.

That's why I always pay with cash when I shop in Paris. I get cash refund right at the airport and don't need to worry about exchange rate going up after 3 months.

Is that true that Chanel boutiques in Paris do not give you the option to get cash refund? For my recent trip to Paris, I requested a cash tax refund, but the SA insisted that Chanel in Paris do not do cash tax refund and only credit card tax refund? Is it True??

Before they give u the option of sending your purchase to your home country directly. Therefore when u paid, Chanel will deduct the VAT and no need to get a refund at airport. They change the policy this year and won't allow it anymore.

different shops make different rules that i wonder what the official rule is..chanel at rue de SHF told me..that the refund mode will be the same as ur payment mode (ie, pay cash, get cash refund)..but at LV flagship, the lady told me, the refund mode is up to us...we make the choice..

I almost didn't get mine a few years ago. Apparently the VAT had an error on my refund. I called them and I got the refund in a couple of weeks. I would suggest you call to inquire about it.

Hello ladies! I understand that Chanel Paris gives tourists/non-EU residents tax refund forms at the point of purchase, after checking your passport to ensure that you're a tourist/non-EU resident. I also know that Chanel Paris will fill in the details like the model & price of the item. My question is: does Chanel fill in the entire tax refund form for you, including your personal details -e.g. name, contact details, address etc? Or does Chanel leave these fields blank for you to fill in?

The reason I ask is that my non-French friend in France might be buying a bag on my behalf right now (to ensure that I get the exact color/model that I want before it goes out-of-stock ), but when I collect the bag when I go to Paris next month, I would like to be able to collect the tax refund on the purchase, when I leave the country. I was wondering if my friend could pay cash and get the tax refund forms for me to fill in?

Any feedback on this would be very much appreciated! :)

only chanel store in lafayette and printemps department store give you option of cash refund at the airport or in store. ( they will deduct 10% of the total refund amount if you choose to have tax refund in cash). you need to take your good out of the EU within 21 days and get customs to stamp the form and send it back. if you fail to do that, they will charge your credit card + 5% admin fee. The cash refund counter at department store will take your credit card details.

Other chanel boutiques only offer tax refund by credit card. you still need to show the goods and get customs to stamp the form at the airport. Refund will usually take 5-8 weeks, sometimes 3 month, sometimes never....!! Your bank will charge you a fee to receive the refund in EU, you will need to lose a bit in the currency exchange and admin fee again..

If you ask for tax refund, SA will ask your passport and credit card details to fill out the form.

yes my friend didnt manage to get his refund back yet....... > 6mths

when people always say mail it or send it back, u mean back in our country, we send it back? or we just drop it at the airport

btw, will we get to have a carbon copy of the form or everything is dumped in... how are we going to have a proof if anything went missing? Thanks

Does anybody have contact info e.g. email (since I am in Canada) of any SA's in the Chanel at Rue Royale? The SA I dealt with was Patricia B....I haven't received my refund yet either and wanted to inquire.

Thanks.

You are supposed to mail the papers after getting them stamped at the airport. They come with carbon copies, so rip off the customer's sheet (I think they are colored pink...) and just send the rest by putting them in the nearest mailbox. Mailboxes are usually located close by the tax refund desk.
