Think so. Because with the NM 6 month no interest plan, the minimum payment each month is your total amount divided by 6.

^Not true, baiyishang. With NM, the plan is 6 months no payment AND no interest. So, there is no payment due nor any interest accruing for the entire 6 months!

I got an email from my Saks SA that they are having a promotion for 12 months no payments no interest if it is a purchase of at least $2000 in a single day. Here is a copy of his email:

Hi. Saks is having Triple Points next week November 5,6,& 7th.(thursday,friday,& sat.)

Saks is also having a Major Purchase Account promotion(MPA) November 5th - December 10th.
No interest and no payments for 12 months when you spend $2000 or more on a Major Purchase Account in a single day between 11/05/09 - 12/10/09. All departments are included. You must have a Saks account to open an MPA.

Let me know if you need his info. Happy shopping ladies!!!

So there is no monthly fee that you have to pay off? You can save up the money and pay at the end of the year?

But can you pay off a little month by month if you want to?

I am new to this and to the whole CC world..sorry!

No requirement on minimum payment each month, pay it off at the very last day or knock off some balance whenever you want. As long as it's paid off w/n 12 month, you are good to go

I have a potentially dumb question.. what is a major purchase account? Is that the upgraded Saks credit card with visa or mastercard? I have one of those.. I just want to be sure. Thanks

My guess is that it's like an additional line of credit which is tied to your Saks account. I also have the Saks card which is also a mastercard. The catch is that you have to apply for the MPA account even if you already have the Saks card. They tried to get me to open one when I bought my J12, but I didn't want to go through the whole application process since I had just opened a Saks account. I don't know. I guess if you already have a MPA account, it would be worth it, but otherwise, you'd have to apply for the additional credit.

^ Ditto !!

In my opinion, i think when you open Saks card - one credit check
MPA - another credit check
Hurt the credit score? Probably
Is it worth it to go through these just for a bag? NO
If there's extra money to spend to afford one then go ahead.
Otherwise debt for a bag is a no...
No doubt though, for those who don't have cash on hand, this offer is very tempting haha...

^ Thritto. I didn't know you had to open a separate account for this! I wonder why Saks does this? It seems like for Neiman Marcus, the promotion is applied to your NM charge (but I am not sure).
