Hi. I am not all that familiar with this handbag although I have been looking for one myself... exterior looks pretty good, but...

4th photo - does it say "Celine Paris Made in Italy" at the base of the flap inside right above the zipper? Maybe it had just faded although I believe it is not a part that gets worn out much.
5th photo - the gold hardware looks rather thin than the ones I have seen before, but it might be just the photo/angle?

Is it possible for you to take it into a Celine boutique to get it authenticated by any chance?
I have once done it with a vintage Cartier watch and they were extremely helpful.

Sorry I am not that helpful. I hope it is authentic!!! Fingers crossed!!!

XOXOXO!!!

Thank you ladies, I think I will try to get it authenticate at a store. I thought the clasp looks pretty authentic. I've been comparing it with a lot of other pictures I found online and in the forum.

The Made in Italy stamp is located in the middle compartment near the top edge.

I posted it in the authentication thread but no one replied =(

Did the seller on Ebay have good reviews? Not that that is a guarantee.
I am trying to bid on shoes now from a seller with excellent reviews, but the seller refuses to send or post any more photos although I have asked/begged her to do so numerous times. The photos would help because I know well about this particular brand.
So I came to the conclusion that reviews may not be a fool proof reflection of the seller.

I am sorry nobody replied to your question on the authentication thread. Maybe not many of us are familiar with this handbag from the 70s and 80s.

Going to a Celine boutique sounds like your best bet. Also check out a consignment store which sells secondary brand goods pretending to be a seller.

Good luck, hun!!!

That is such a bummer when the seller refuses to send you more pics. Yeah I think you are right about not pursuing it any further. I would be skeptical about it too. I hope you will find another good deal soon! =)

The ebay seller that sold me that bag did have good reviews, but like you pointed out, that is not a guaranty.

Here is the original ebay listing.

Oh yeah, and she was very accommodating. I requested for more pictures twice, and both times she sent me more pics.

There is another seller of the same exact box bag. Why don't you compare the photos with your own. The seller is based in Japan, and the condition etc is usually pretty good as well as authenticity with Japanese retailers. I for one live here and never ever had any problems with retailers in general for they/we are super duper polite. The link is as follows:

heheh I saw that post and did some comparisons. I noticed that in the pic of the front of the bag with the flap lifted up, where it says CELINE Paris, the is no accent mark over the first E in Celine. Do all Celine stamps have the accent mark over the e??

And I also notice on different vintage box bags, the made in italy stamps are located in different places, doesn't make it easier to authenticate =/

I hear you! The stamps are all over the place which is confusing...
I only have the micro luggage and the two I have has the accent mark over the E.
I think the photos of vintage celine boxes I have seen on other sites did not though.
Depending on the decade the bags came out may differ. So hard to authenticate coz they are not sold at ligit Celine boutiques anymore either.

Celine boutique or 2nd hand shop owners should know best I believe.
Let me know how it goes coz Id like to buy one one of these days!

XOXOXO!!!

Aside from worrying about authenticity issues, do you like the bag? Is it nice in real life assuming its the real deal? Classy? Easy to use? Can carry enough stuff?

I only wear silver jewelry so am wondering if all the hardware will clash although I understand anything vintage mostly has gold hardware.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I haven't really used it yet because I had to come back to Switzerland for work and didn't get a chance to wear it, plus I wanted to authenticate it before using it in case I have to file a claim on ebay. I will be back in the US in 2 weeks. I will keep you posted and take some pics to post =)

Hi there, I have been stalking ebay for almost a year for vintage celine box bag, and what I can say is that your bag looks legit.
There are a few variations on the horse carriage box bag, and your version is one of the most popular one, and still pretty rare to find.
Here are two links of the same bags on ebay, the listing has ended though and both links are from Japan seller. One of the link is the same as what HelenofTroy has posted above.
Black box bag
Burgundy box bag

And I also have another Horse carriage box bag in another version

Dear cottoncat

What would be the points we should be looking for to authenticate this particular bag before we start bidding.

Your smart instights would be much appreciated.

Thank you so much!!!

Helen,
Quite frankly, I can't say that I'm an expert in this. I owned two Celine vintage bag and bought them from a reputable ebay seller from Japan. And I believe that Celine are pretty popular in Japan in the 70s and 80s. And I do not know if they have fakes back in those days.
Nevertheless, I did notice some constant details of the horse carriage box bag, but I cannot say if these are signs of authenticity.

1. The type of box bag that Esential have, the Celine logo is placed on the right hand bottom of the front clasp. There are a few bags that I saw that have the logo in the middle of the front clasp.
And in other variation, behind the clasp there is a writing "made in italy" engraved on it.
2. The zipper inside the bag have a small gold charm, with the letter C on it, shaped a bit like a heart shape. Some other bags have the charm with the Celine emblem on it.
3. The clasp on both end of the handle have the shape of two horse shoe clamping on the handle, (like what esential have)
4. The lining is the same color as the bag (full leather), some other bags have red lining on it.

I will try to upload some photos that I had saved tomorrow. Can't access my photobucket for some strange reason
