From MSN's wonderwall...

Miley Cyrus has energetically danced around a pole while belting out her hit song "Party in the U.S.A.," but that doesn't mean she understands the ditty's appeal.

During a backstage interview before her Halloween night concert in Louisville, Ky., the gravelly-voiced teen queen, 16, was asked, probably for the umpteenth time, about the Jay-Z tune mentioned in "Party" (you know, the one that was on in the cab that got her head nodding and her hips moving "like yeah").

"I don't know," replied Miley, who was dressed up as Pocahontas for the occasion. "I didn't write the song, so I have no idea. Honestly, I picked that song 'cause I needed something to go with my clothing line. I didn't write it [and] I didn't expect it to be popular, originally. It was just something that I wanted to do and I needed some songs and it turned out for the best."

When the reporter persisted, suggesting that it was perhaps "Big Pimpin'" that she was warbling about (a guess he made in front of his twin little girls, who, we gotta say, Miley was very patient with), she shut him down in the most effective way possible.

"I've never heard a Jay-Z song. I don't listen to pop music," she declared, an admission that's likely to confuse her tweeny-bopper fan base. "It's not even my style of music, that song. I'm really blessed for it to have done as well as it has. Totally, totally blessed. God has definitely put me in an amazing position with amazing people."

But the Big Guy upstairs is also apparently telling her to avoid dad Billy Ray's mullet-y zenith. Miley responded in the negative to a question about whether she has any plans to cover "Achy Breaky Heart" -- and even got in an additional poke at Jay-Z.

"No, no thank you," she immediately shot back. "That's like covering a Jay-Z song. That's not gonna happen."

Meanwhile, Cyrus' sweeter side was on display the day before the concert, when she brightened the afternoon of some young fans who weren't able to make it to her show.

The starlet spent time with patients and their families at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, where she smiled wide for photos, signed autographs and cheered on some of the tykes who shored up their courage and sang for her.

she sings those pop songs because they sell and appeal to a certain crowd and that is smart of her. there are prob lots of artists who don't listen strictly to their own type of music.

i know from her and her siblings twitters that they are really into rock/alternative, like really talented bands that aren't mainstream.

i mean, if i could design clothes for women and make millions, i would. it doesn't necessarily mean i would wear my own designs. if i were a chef and made things that just didn't suit my healthy lifestyle, i wouldn't eat it.

i think Miley sticks to that genre because it has worked for her. the Hannah Montana thing will always stick with her and i doubt she would have a good following if she went more rock/emo. those fans would prob not be very supportive of an teen disney star.

Jay-Z is not pop music.

And I'm sure she doesn't listen to strictly pop....a lot of people's musical tastes, including myself, span several genres. I guess she could've worded it differently. I found it to be kind of snobbish. And before Miley fans start jumping down my throat, I realize what she said could be interpreted different ways...I'm just saying how it came off to me. I also think it's kind of insulting to all her fans to tell them she doesn't even like the music that she's "creating for them".

i honestly think their line of questioning was trying to create drama.

when i heard that song, i just thought she used "Britney and Jay-Z" because they are popular and their music is know to get a crowd going. i didn't think about a specific B or JZ song that was too adult or controversial. i just thought, a good beat to bob your head to.

Thank you, this is exactly what I thought.

really . . . it's best for all of us, her included, if she'd just sing, shut up and stay in Nashville between shows.

Where's Charles to tell us it's completely reasonable for young teenage girls to wear shorts like that?
LOL!

I don't think she meant to show cheek on purpose. I just think she needs to invest in butt glue the next time she wears shorts like that on stage.

She has gained weight during this tour,so I think it depend to this. They should have bought her bigger shorts,no doubt XD But I have to say I prefer her like this, with a bit more of meat on her bones. She look great, not painfully thin as she as before. She look healty, but Miley, buy bigger clothes xD
As for the music, she always said she listen to country and alternative rock music.Even in a recent interview on tv she said that this is not the musical direction she want to take for her career, she want to do other things in future, but right now she can't,something among this lines.

Agreed! I mean... I don't have children but if I did I wouldn't let them wear those unless if they were legitimate underwear. And I certainly would not wear those now, let alone when I was 16.

Furthermore, I agree with all the glue statements. I used to do gymnastics and we had a spray so that our leos would not ride up... Miley, please invest in this stuff. Please.

OMG, how inappropriate those shorts were! I've always felt that a lot of things she has done are inappropriate for a girl her age (um, dating an older underwear model for one...). I recently saw a picture in a magazine of her younger sister all dolled up. Again, what are the parents thinking???? I think the dollar signs are clouding their judgement.
