As best I understand it, some people self destruct simply because they can't stand the pain of their own existence. How do you condemn anyone for that? Without having it spelled out, nobody can understand the causes of another person's psychic pain.

I don't want to go into the details of the prolonged torture that was my childhood. I certainly don't want to buy into any arguments about it. All I will say is, I understand someone doing drugs to blot out their pain. At the same time, I don't endorse blotting out with drugs as a solution, in fact exactly the opposite ... because once you're on that treadmill, you can't see behind yourself to where you came from. But the only way to deal with pain is to accept it, to confront the source; and to do that, you have to turn yourself around and face it. And as Shimma Puff said, Amy is the only one who can turn Amy around.

To me that adds up to this: if you have a belief system - if you are a Christian or Buddhist or whatever - you could do worse than just say a prayer for Amy. Or if you don't have any system of belief - maybe just plug into the cosmos and wish her well. Just send out a good vibe for her to find her way to her own peace. I think, I believe - that truly is the kindest thing you can do.

I have to agree! It is terribly sad that she has chosen such harmful substances to ease her pain, but we all do it. Just perhaps not as destructive. Many of us, when hurting, run out and go shopping (shoot I know I do). This is her way. It could be worse...she could do what some do and try and validate her existence by hurting/killing others. Instead she's choosing to kill herself... I feel so sorry for her! I hope she gets better and finds herself not at the end of a crack pipe!
