Well, hopefully he is getting lots of rest in Sweden and maybe some light reading or drinking with some friends and he'll come back all refreshed

What, no blazing comments on my take of the "Straw Dogs" script and how deep Southerners are characterized? Surely thought that there'd be a select few that would latch onto it! Oh, and NOT in an argumentative way, just thought that some folks would have some "comments" is all.

For some reason, I couldn't get the link to open, to the script. Then I decided maybe I WON'T read it and just wait until it comes out.

I do agree that Southerners are portrayed in a cliched fashion (I'm basically a NYC/DC girl myself) and it's tiresome and lazy. I love the the South! Moving to Charleston, SC next year. So there!

"Me oh my....reading the SD script and the little MS town sounds freakishly like the little MS town I grew-up in: Clarksdale, MS-"Birthplace of the Blues"! I couldn't even IMAGINE goin' back there! And running into "old flames"? A VERY frightening thought!

What I really do find disturbing is how Hollywood seems to always over-exaggerate the "redneck aspect"--not all of us that are from or still live in the deep south are thataway i.e., hanging out at football games and bowling alleys on a daily basis, butchering the english language by peppering our sentences with words that aren't real "words", or tormenting outsiders that don't "belong" just for the hell of it.

And I can't even imagine how badly the Southern accents are going to be over-accentuated! Now THAT is one that gets me every time! Hey casting directors, here's a thought! Why not cast actors and actresses that are actually SOUTHERN! Wow! What a concept!!"

Momtojsb, as you know, I'm a yank who relocated to the South and can honestly say that has not been my experience here. Sure, there are select individuals who meet the criteria of this stereotype, but I agree it is over played as regional stereotypes can be applied to individuals in any areas so "fortunate" enough to be so labeled. Much is also said about "New Yawkers" and NYC in a similar stereotypical fashion. And Hollywood, being the "mecca" for substance and wisdom, will most certainly exploit these "regionisms" for the right price.

7:35 p.m. – Alexander Skarsgard pulled up. Before he got out of the car, his people said no autographs… bummer… He looked really pale, not just Swedish pale, but like Swedish Vampire pale.

Makes me wonder about the validity of this report since AS has been quite tanned for months ....

It was inevitable. I think Shreveport was the last hurrah for such an open, accessible ASkars. In the future I think we'll be seeing more wariness and unwillingness to deal with it all, and I don't blame him (nice job, stalkers).

Regarding Straw Dogs and Southerners-- I am a born and bred Californian, but my mom is from one of the Southern states that gets bashed the most, and I just roll my eyes at the vast majority of Southern accents in TV and movies. I've even heard crappy ones from actors I know are from the South (looking at you, Julia Roberts). There doesn't seem to be much understanding that there are different accents even within a state; there is no one size fits all Southern accent.

I expect that when the film comes out some reviewers will take it to task for the stereotypes.
