"In my opinion, the Kony viral video was impressive in how it showed a smart, creative way to tackle world issues by using the methods of a viral hype. I do want so say there is a lot that I don't like about this video, especially the way that they seem to promote themselves as much or ever more than the awareness for Kony. There is also a bad taste of post-colonialism running through it- partly shown by the lack of Ugandan voices being heard. That being said, I think this is going to be a very affective campaign to popularize the awareness of this atrocious man and help lead to his arrest."

I said in Sweden you pronounce it as Shinnaman, but the correct pronunciation should be Kinnaman. His dad is American and therefore it's Kinnaman.

She disagreed and said that his dad might be American but of original Swedish origin. That's why his name should be pronounced as Shinnaman.

So who's right?

Btw, of course we totally agreed about the hotness of this guy.

Well in Swedish interviews people announce/approach him as Yoel Kinnamaan (that's the pronunciation). But I agree with the American dad theory. It should be Kinnaman not Shinnaman. Never heard of his dad having Swedish origin. I thought he went to Sweden because it was one of the only countries that does not extradite deserter given the US was after him.
Maybe we should ask him at the premiere in August and be like, "Joel sweetie (as if we were buddies), would you mind giving us pronunciation and tongue lessons on your last name? We're having a serious debate over the fact that we don't know how to approach you the right way."

I totally agree with you but we also know that Alex isn't pronouncing his name the right way either. He makes it easier for the Americans.
But on the other hand you also said his sister is saying it this way and she's mostly in Sweden. So yeah just wanted to add that.

I think her assumption comes from the fact that most Americans have ancestors from Europe. Doesn't really matter tho. It's Kinnaman with a K.
