I have decided to get my first bv veneta in tourmaline a few months ago....or so i thought. When I tried the bag in BV boutique, I just dont have the rush to buy it. So I got a Chanel bag instead. Am still a BV virgin right now. I keep thinking to buy the Veneta, and oh my, the new color Teal totally takes my breath away! Should I buy it? Or get another bag that makes my heart pounds faster? TIA.

If other bags make your heart pound faster, why would you get a Bottega Veneta? Get what you like; we can't convince you to like something that you really don't like. If you didn't feel and appreciate the luxuriousness of the Italian hand-created works of art that BV creates while you were at the boutique, we just can't convince you. BV speaks for itself, and apparently something else speaks to you more.

Love for a particular bag is unexplainable. The first time I saw a BV in an Italian shop window, I fell in love and that was it for me. Several years later, BV is still my first love in designer bags.

As indiaink says, buy what YOU love.

The bags will speak itself. My sister loves LV and for years I did not really care about designer bag. I have Gucci here and there, it made me think triple times even to get one. Until I saw BV Shock and Steel...I could not stop thinking about it and I am addicted since then :) I am with indiaink and boxermom, bags are not cheap so you should ensure that's what you really love

try to see the teal veneta irl but ultimately you should get the bag you love the most and the bag that works for you. not always the same thing. bv's are great but you have to go with the bag that makes you feel great or ultimately you won't use it.

Buy what you love... BV may not be talking to you know but who knows down

the road??? and besides which, bags are so costly now that you should buy

what you will use & love...

I think that once you buy BV you won't want anything else
once you buy a BV and "break" it in you will love how soft and drapey the leather is
but my advice is
establish yourself with a BV SA
seasonal colors go on sale
most of the sale is private and if you want a paticular you need an SA because the really great colors and bags go quickly
you could also start out small and see if you enjoy BV
when I say small I am thinking small leather goods
a wallet or a cosmetic case or a document case they take longer to "break" in but you would still have BV

The best way that I have ever found to determine if I really want something or not is to just wait for a while. If you find that you are still longing for it a few weeks later, then it's probably the one for you. I have also used this tactic to determine whether I wanted a specific thing or if I just wanted something new. It's hard (really hard) to resist the temptation, but I end up with more of what works for me. I hope that helps!

I think it's a question of whether BV fits into your lifestyle & general aesthetic ... If it does, the quality of the materials & the craftsmanship will follow.
I've never been a devotee of any handbag company other than BV.
What I noticed first about BV were the ad campaigns.
In Vogue, Vanity Fair, etc. - - they were downright alluring. If Gucci under Tom Ford was seductive, Bottega Veneta under Tomas Maier was seductive ... and refined.
But it wasn't until I was about to turn 30 that I actually purchased a BV Handbag. By then, it was the right time, the right bag, etc.

Can I ask - What drew you to the tourmaline veneta to begin with? And then, what ultimately made you want to purchase the chanel?

I totally agree with the others :). And you are truly getting great advice from BV experts here. Buy what you truly, truly love and what you'll enjoy wearing because it's an expression and extension of you. :)

I was a Gucci girl for many years... especially during the Tom Ford years. But my last purchase was in Dec. 2011 because I couldn't resist the allure of the Medium New Jackie bag in Medium light brown Guccissima leather. The Large New Jackie is way too big for my taste. Gucci is my sentimental favorite or my first love too since it was the first ever designer bag Dear Husband gave me 2 months after we tied the knot. :)

Bottega Veneta first caught my eye in a Vogue Patterns magazine in my early 20s. I didn't even know anything about designer bags back then --- nor could I afford them. We're talking about right after graduate-school-poor here. ;-) We often travel to or through HK and they have a BV boutique at the airport that carries items not available online or in the States. I'd look at what they have, but nothing actually called my name until 2010 when the Magma color came out. Dear Husband bought me a Large Belly Veneta in Magma. It was followed by a medium veneta in lagoon and a small bag in empire in 2011. But the serious addiction started in June of this year when I saw the Turquoise. Oh my goodness, the perfect shade of blue for blue-loving me. I couldn't stop thinking about the Turquoise. Now I have to say BV is my timeless favorite and I love the bags more everytime I wear them. They're so elegant in a subtle and quiet way and don't "scream" for attention. I love how "I wear the bag" and not the other way around. It's stunning without overpowering the wearer. In a span of two months, July to Aug of this year, I purchased 3 BVs (the Turquoise Large Veneta included... Yay!). I have other designer bags too (Diors, Guccis, Bals, etc.) but for whatever reason, BV is the only one that does NOT give me buyer's remorse :). It's soooo worth it. And the colors, they really celebrate the best of the seasons. And in my opinion, BV is the quintessence of "timeless elegance". A BV bag defines yet defies the passage of time, and celebrates the seasons while remaining seasonless.

Anyway, sorry to be long-winded. I think when you find a BV that calls your name --- and everything about it is 'you' (color, style size), then that's the time to buy a BV.

PS. On my part, I'm still waiting for the Chanel bag that calls my name. Been thinking about Chanel since reading the novel "Master of the Game" by Sidney Sheldon in college. I'm thinking of getting a new one because the pre-owned bags I'm seeing that sell for $2.5-3K all have considerable wear in them. Just can't imagine spending that much on something that I'll be unhappy about.

Such great advice here, bags27! Don't feel bad that you do not feel a rush to buy. An expensive bag is not a impulse buy. If you feel more drawn to Chanel, then get a Chanel. I have found that my likes have changed throughout the years.

Hello everyone. Thanks a lot for the advice. I guess my interest in BV lies in the way it screams luxury without the big logo. I was a Lv and Gucci fan but as I get older (sigh), my taste in bags change. Actually I love red and blue colors a lot. Am still hunting for the blue bag that makes me go WOW! Bv colors are really beautiful. I think I will go to the BV boutique to try out the Teal veneta and lets see whether this time, it will make my heart pounds faster. I know I will surely get a large veneta. Question is: When and which color. Thks everyone!

Every season BV does a blue color. Take a look through the reference library. If you find yourself attracted to a blue from an older season, you may want to look for a pre-loved Veneta. If you want a new bag and do not love the teal, just wait and another blue will certainly come along. Good luck.

If wovens aren't your thing, make sure you check out their baseball Cervo's. Just take a look at indiaink's for reference! BV does make the most beautiful colored, elegant handbags!

I have a tourmaline large veneta and I love both the color and the size. I previously had a medium veneta in ebene but the color never wowed me and the size was too small. IMO a hobo bag should look big and the large or maxi works best. I attached some pics of my bag so anyone not familiar with the color can see just how beautiful it is. The first is indoor lighting, no flash. There rest are shades open in bright daylight and/or flash so you can see that it really is a dark blue, not black. I also added a few next to my black Chanel cerf for comparision.
I think it's nice to have more than one 'brand' of bag....I personally have a nice mix of Chanel, BV, Hermes, Gucci, Ferragamo, Fendi, Tods, Dior and my latest obsession, Tom Ford. Each house has it's own personality and it's fun to be able to change things up
