Hello, I am totally new to the BV section of the Purse Forum and I need the experts' help to get my first (or the "first"
) BV bag. Since I have a few birkins, I decided that I don't want to get a cabat since the style is so similar. I think I want to start with large Veneta bag in a shade of grey. I looked through the colors and found several grey shades like ferro, limo, cement, and storm. Cement and limo are not needed because I have a gris birkin and a grey chanel reissue. I like ferro but I couldn't tell the difference between the classic black and ferro. Is there a real difference between the two colors? Also, I looked through Neiman, Saks, Bergdorf, and BV.com but none of these sites had a ferro large veneta. I was wondering if they are not on the website, would they be in the store? Would I need to special order? Thanks in advance to all the great answers!!!

welcome to BV!
HUGE difference between nero and ferro. i think you will see the difference in the photos here Black/Grey Color Family- PICS ONLY!!! i am not sure i have ever seen a ferro veneta, other than baggiana's ottone ferro karung SO. hmmm. spend time in the color reference thread. it will be a pleasure :) also since you like neutrals, have you considered FW09 elephant? |

Hi and welcome!
Personally I don't think the Cabat and the Birkin are much alike, but the large Veneta is a classic bag and I think you would love it. I've never seen a Ferro Veneta. I think the Sloane and the Pyramid are the only bags made in Ferro now. Check out the colors, as doloresmia suggested--Ferro is much lighter than Nero, the classic black. Have fun deciding:-) |

I agree with Boxermom - Cabat and Birkin are totally different. I saw a Ferro Sloane in the Houston store. Don't know if it is still there, though. You could call Homer anbd find out. Ash or Elephant are great colors in the large Veneta. Good luck!!!!

Before I got my Ferro Sloane I asked a few SAs for a large Veneta in Ferro and they told me it didn't come in that shade. If you want it, I would think it would have to be special order. HTH!
ETA: I agree there is a noticable difference between the Ferro and Nero in colour. |

ferro is a blue-grey shade, and it is made of nappa umbria, like a waxed lamb leather, which does not have much sheen in comparison to the nero ( black) lambskin.. However if you look closely, and under certain lights, the ferro shade has blue-green irridescent sparkles in the leather..It is not always seen, it just depends on the lighting..and of course, as it was already said, a ferro veneta would have to be special ordered (so). But I bet it woukd be gorgeous!

It would be worth trying on a Sloane and Pyramid. The Pyramid is a hybrid between the Sloane and Veneta. The shape of the Pyramid was famously (
) depicted by jane in the cupcake shop, post #2: Pyramid - PICS ONLY!!! There are also some Ferro bags in that thread. The Ferro Sloane was my first BV. I adore the color and its mysterious color shifting properties. |

Very large difference between ferro and nero. I would try on a Ferro sloane in store to see if you like the shape. If that doesn't suit you, a Ferro Veneta would be great a special order!

Someone did SO a ferro veneta, I seem to remember... Mid - can you locate it or remember who did? It inspired me to make my own SO's.

We have lots of rain here too. I usually take out the Veneta or Pyramid in rain, because they zip closed. I never use my reptile bags in rain, because they spot.

Oh you ladies are just so helpful!!! thanks so much for all the replies. But, is the special order really expensive and hard to do? I really want the ferro veneta and I looked at the pyramid and sloane style but I think I like the shape of veneta better. I think I read some where on this forum that ferro is becoming a classic shade...Is that a possibility for escaping a SO?

baghooligan, I found the thread, and it was an SO by our very own Bunkie: Special Order Ferro Large Veneta!
At the time, I believe that the cost was around $2400, and the time is around 18 weeks... I am almost at the 18 week mark for my SO right now. I suppose it depends on how much you want it, and how much patience you have to get the bag in the color that you want. There may be one new glitch... BV wants upgrades in their SO's, so I do not know if they would be willing to do this one... but it costs nothing to find out by submitting it to your SA. If you get a positive answer, you can decide whether you want to go forward or not. The submission/approval process has taken about 2-3 weeks in both cases. |
