Default RE: Which Cabat? Peltro, ottone or platinum ossidato?
I fell in love with the peltro (silvery) color about a year ago when my SA showed me photos from previous season wallets/makeup cases at the BV boutique. I loved it so much, I purchased the peltro continental wallet and makeup case full price without much hesitation which is rare for me. I had my SA desperately look for the medium peltro cabat all over the world but it was completely sold out. I believe a lovely TPFer bought the last one earlier in the year. My SA said I have the option to special order the peltro cabat with 30% markup (with 50% deposit upfront). I never followed through because the price is just .

Now that it's warm, I'm rethinking the cabat and need your opinion with such a big purchase! I'm debating between peltro nappa, ottone goatskin, platinum ossidato barcelona calf (bronze). Ottone and Platinum Ossidato are currently available and peltro would be a SO which takes about 4-6 months.

Alternatively I could save the money and put it towards Hermes which I'm learning and loving. Hermes seems more classic and may hold its value better? I have also been thinking about purchasing the Chanel white caviar jumbo for the summer.

If I decide on a cabat, I'll be on a shopping ban. What are your thoughts on the cabat? Is it worth the plunge? My concerns are the open top and that it seems like a spring/summer bag with a more casual vibe. I could order peltro in another bag style but can't think of anything else I prefer. I tried it on in the boutique and would probably wear it with the sides folded in like a trapezoid. I think I prefer the slouchier size of the medium to the asian cabat. Oh is it ridiculous to spend $5k + on a woven basket?

Please help!!!

Mystiletto- you have a lot of difficult things to consider. i have never seen the peltro irl so i cannot give you an informed opinion. i am not in love with nappa myself i find it too soft but i know i am in the minority.
i have the ottone cabat and i love it and use it a lot on vacation but find it hard to use as an everyday bag. very open. it is very durable and i use it in bad weather as with the noce cabat.
i thought i would love a large cabat and use it for travel so i got a grigio cabat in goat skin in large. it was made as a run of 100.
it is really beautiful but it is unbelievably heavy. i didn't carry it on a recent trip i used my garden party mm which worked out great.
somehow the hermes bags seem to work better for me. i don't have a birkin or kelly but i love the lindy and especially the bolide.
anything by hermes seems to work great.
i never mind a heavy bag but this large cabat in the goat skin is really heavy.
i don't know if any of this is helpful. i hate to see you make a mistake.
here is a picture of the cabat in grigio.

Mystilleto, what a wonderful selection of choices to vote on! I think the answer really depends on your lifestyle. My favorite color handsdown for BV's is Ottone but the goatskin is substantially heavier than the nappa. My Ottone Sloane gets heavy at times for me. Love my Ottone Sloane to death but my Pergamena is much lighter and easier to wear on long days. I know I could only own a Cabat in Nappa. It is a style that you would want to use alot, very versatile. I would feel prohibited by the weight of the goatskin. My top choices for Cabats are Nero and Noce, seriously. Love the look of the Otton though!!!

I have been exploring Hermes and love the look, craftsmanship, and quality but would buy a Cabat before a Kelly or Birkin because it fits my style and lifestyle better right now.

I love the White Caviar Jumbo Chanel for summer but it is a very different style and use than a Cabat(not so different from the Kelly though).

Big decision and big prices. My advice would be choose the one that fits you. Good luck and I look foward to hearing what beautiful bag you decide on.

i have both the ottone and the platinum ossidato and i really the ottone. my SA told me that i got the last one in the country but i hope you can find one!!!!

but if your original choice is the peltro, you should go for it. i know the mark-up is alot but if you are going to spend so much money already, you might as well get something that you really want, KWIM?

Congrats on the large cabat Annie...sorry to hear about the weight issue though..

My large ossidato cabat has been wearing beautifully...although it gets heavy, as it is calf, you get used to the weight eventually...I think color is really a personal choice, I'm glad I went with ossidato because it works well with my style and really adds pizzazz to a neutral palette...

I think you really need to spend time with the bag to truly understand if the color works with you...don't rush into any color or have someone persuade you, because most likely you will end up with your inital choice one way or another...

i originally voted for ottone but seeing how you love peltro..if you will be spending considerably for a bag, it must be for one that you are completely in love with, whether it's a peltro bag/cabat, a cabat in another color or a totally different bag.

i would guess that since hermes is more popular, the bags can have better resale value. in any case, you won't go wrong with either a cabat or a kelly.

Peltro is my FAVOURITE bv colour of all time. The muted silver with shades of "wear" is just TDF. Unfortunately, the colour was just being sold out when I was first introduced to BV, and I simply can't afford a Cabat.

But in your situation, if like me, you are still in love with Peltro, and money is not an issue, then I would vote that you SO a Peltro Cabat, cos it will not be a purchase that you will regret

All the bags you mentioned are quite different in style and usage. All beautiful in their own rights. I guess at the end of the day it boils down to knowing yourself and what is your ultimate style and usage. I love the Cabat but finds that it does not fit my style - just do not like how it looks on me (but love it on others, I always stare). Chanel flap is a must have in a gal's collection. Again, is the white jumbo what you would love to use few years down the road? Hermes is like the grail for most people. The style is very classic (at least most of them are). With the choices we faced constantly everyday, I have come to realise that I gotta really love the bag I'm plonking down big money for. It's gotta be me, the bag. Take your time to find out what makes you tick (happy). Discover more about the brands and yourself (colour preference, style, image etc).

I know I'm not really helping much here. To me, it's you yourself who can decide, as you are the one who will be using the bag.

annie9999 thank you so much for your photos and your much valued advice. Your cabat is so special! We'd love to see some action pics. You have a beautiful BV collection. You are making me consider whether goatskin would be too heavy for daily use in cabat form or whether nappa would be too delicate. I appreciate the comparison to Hermes bags as well. I would definitely hate to regret a big purchase.

Samantha's Collection I love your BV collection too - lovely shoes & bags. You are so right about BV fitting my current lifestyle better than Hermes Kelly or Birkin. I can't shake the thought of the white jumbo though and I definitely can't purchase both the jumbo and the cabat.

jeshika you have all the classic BVs in your collection. Is your ottone a medium cabat? Do you find it heavy? How does the weight compare to the platinum ossidato asian cabat? Does the medium slouch more than the asian size?

foxie-pooh congrats on your beautiful platinum ossidato cabat. I tried on the medium version in the BV boutique and I think it's seasonless with the bronze weathered look, while I find peltro and ottone more summery.

Sum thanks for your thoughts. I think the ottone is beautiful too but peltro keeps haunting me. I have no idea what the peltro will look like in cabat form though.

Nymph thanks for being a peltro lover and encouraging me to bite the bullet. You are actually the reason I found out about peltro. I remember you raving about the color and my SA mentioned that she had some silver items from past seasons and I asked if it was peltro. The rest is history. There may still be accessories left like wallets or makeup cases so let me know if you'd like me to inquire.

ms piggy I wish I was as decisive as you in building a beautiful handbag collection. Congrats on your stunning Kelly! I definitely think you should get that black reissue. If I didn't have a black medium caviar flap already, I'd be really tempted. The white jumbo is so tempting too.

Thanks to everyone else who voted in the poll!

Me decisive? Far from it, I'm still culling and reshuffling my bag collection. And it does not help that I'm quite the complex personality, with loads of different moods. But by and large, I guess I stick to classics with a twist/edge. That is not to say you can't have the lot you know. Just get one of them each year.

I'm way too new to BV to have an opinion about your choices, but I have to say, you really can't make a mistake, they are all such gorgeous colors for the cabat.
