They salt the roads here too. I like the look of snow and I enjoy having four seasons, but as you say, it's such fun.

I like geometrics in general, too! My daughters tease me that I'm always doodling triangles and circles.

jburgh: Please be careful! I dread slipping on the ice and hate driving on slippery roads.

Wow, this thread moves quickly!

Portland weather must be terrible too--a friend there emailed that they are requiring chains on the tires for you to be driving! We rarely got much ice in Chgo; just lots of snow and wind.

LLANeedle, you are not the oldest! I just turned 64 this month. It took me a long time to appreciate fine handbags, though I did buy Coach when I was 40-something.

Speaking of dinner last night, we went out to eat with a new couple in the neighborhood. She never stopped talking; he seemed nice, but couldn't get a word in. Plus, she had at least 4 special requests for the waiter (raspberry tea, bread basket immediately, real blue cheese crumbles on her salad, more ice cubes) and this was a casual dining place. 90 minutes seemed much longer.

When are we supposed to see the 3rd Ball bag? Fall/Winter? or earlier, maybe this summer? I love the original, but I'm open to some tweaking.

The Ball 3 should be in stores in Feb/March according to the fabulous BV team here in San Francisco.

Jane, the colors I remember are tea, cinnamon, one other spring/summer color, and classic colors (but I didn't get the list of classic colors). I can ask, if you want. The manager of the SF BV, Brian, is wonderful and he & I share a mutual love of the Ball style.

I love tandoori chicken. DH is grilling steaks for dinner tonight.

I went to the grocery store today in cropped pants and flip flops! I would love to have some winter weather. Please send me some! Promise that I have been good! lol

Capulet - your DD is just adorable!
Jburgh - that poster was not too long ago, because I remember that. She said that BV bags were just so-so and you could go to Target for something just as nice.

I made my DH some beef stroganoff tonight since he was gone for a couple of days. As much as I enjoy my "me" time, I sure don't sleep well when he is gone. It seems that each year that goes by, instead of gaining more independence, I become more dependent. Anybody else that way, or is it just me?

I know what you mean -- my husband is leaving tomorrow for a week in San Francisco for work. Bleah. I hate when he has to do this, and I don't sleep well either. What's worse is that we are going to have some very frigid weather and more snow, and he is a better snow driver than me. I don't know what to do... I can work from home with my job and just may do that for half the week. I also had to hire a dog walker for Kona, though I'll cancel on the days that I work at home.

So anyway for dinner I made pork chops breaded with mustard and crumbs, and a roasted butternut squash with cranberries. Yum.

We may still take Kona out for her walk tonight but I am hesitant due to stupid icy sidewalks.

Thanks for sharing the pics, Jane! Your dog looks like a snow lover. The granola looks yummy! I miss granola since I discovered I'm allergic to nuts.

Here in SF it's been rain, rain, rain all day. Tell your DH to bring an umbrella; it's supposed to rain through Wednesday. Any chance he'll stop at BV to pick up a lil something for you? That would help soothe the sting of his absence just a little, I'm sure.

I finally added an avatar. A friend of mine went to a Renaissance art exhibition in Berlin, and couldn't get over how much this 1517 painting looks like me. It's from northern Italy so I suspect it is a long-lost ancestor; she's a dead ringer for my nonni as well.

Jane - sorry about your DH. It is hard when they are gone. The granola looks wonderful and what a great gift.

Doreen- love the painting.

Can't get over all the snow in the pics. It was so warm here today! I WANT SNOW!!!!

I would gladly give you what's coming our way, if I could. But you'd have to promise to take the ice, too.

I too hate it when DH goes out of town. It's very hard for me to manage everything here by myself for even a couple of days.

Doreen, love your avatar!

I made Chicken Marsala tonight for dinner. I love mushrooms (and chicken - no one even asks any more what we're having for dinner, because it's always chicken!)

Show us a picture of the tree. I would love to see your frog collection.
Cheers,

Goldenflower, I'm staring the big six zero in the face. Geez, where did my life go? I'd like to do/get something special to commemorate the day but I'm undecided. I love BV so I thought about a SO or maybe a piece of jewelry would be better? I never had a slumber party growing up so I'm thinking of having my friends over for one. Frightening thought, huh? My dh says I'll fall asleep before 10pm...LOL

My cards are done and mailed but only because I've been held hostage by window installers since 12/4 and confined with the dog to the kitchen, out of the way. I've mentioned in other threads I collect frogs. My tree is decorated entirely with frog ornaments and my cards every year have frogs on them.

That legacy stripe scarf is so pretty. My younger dd gave me the umbrella....I love it.

Jane, love the pictures! And granola gifts, what a great idea. I love to make something to give as gifts every year and I think I might just do granola!

This morning I put a pot roast in the slow cooker. We (3kids and DH) attended a play at a local theatre in the woods (seats only 60) for a presentation of Puss in Boots, it was wonderful and so funny, we all enjoyed it very much! When we arrived home dinner was ready and yummy.

Thanks for the reminder on cards, oy, I am so behind...
I write a letter every year to update friends and family and although I have composed most of it in my head, I have yet to hit the keys. Tomorrow, for sure, lol!
Cold but sunny here today.
Cheers

I can post the granola recipe if you guys want. It's super easy, the only complicated part is just assembling ingredients and then the fact that it must be stirred in the baking sheet every 8 minutes as it cooks.
