Well ladies we just dropped my 12 yr old dd at her camp. She was fine but I am the wreck! I told her she had to call me every night and she said ,"Mom, you have got to be kidding ".

I don't know what I am going to do when my oldest goes to college in a year!

Oh, ssc0619, I am so with you!! At least you get to speak with your daughter, though maybe not every night, our son's camp does not allow any phoning at all!

I have no idea what I am going to do when my son eventually leaves our house either. Should we plan a BV meet up?

Oh, Mid! I would have a very, very hard time with no phones calls or texts! I totally understand how you feel.

I didn't get a phone call last night, but I did get a text! Only a couple of words, but I was waiting anxiously for something. She said the first day was great. Of course I knew that would happen, that she would have fun. And of course that what's I want to happen.

When my eldest daughter went to her first sleep away camp it was for 3 weeks and we weren't allowed to communicate except by letters. I wrote a letter (sometimes 2) every single day. My friends thought I had lost my mnd! I got a letter or 2 a week back from her if I was lucky!

The real thing that kept me going back then was the camp had a photographer who followed all the girls around during the day and they'd post the pictures on the camp website every morning. When I woke up I'd run to the computer to try and catch a glimpse of my daughter in the pictures. I was thirlled every time I saw proof that she was alive and happy!

My friends told me the same thing....take this time for yourself. Relax, enjoy your free time. I really didn't do any of that. I spent my time going to stores to find cards and magazines to send her. I printed the camp pictures off the website and made a photo album for her. I moped around the house.

The good news is when my eldest returned to the camp for the next two years I was able to enjoy the time then. But I won't kid you, the first year I didn't.

Everytime I think about the whole thing it reminds me of a few years back when we had a bird nest on our porch. We were lucky enough to see the eggs hatch and watch the mother with her babies. The day she taught them how to leave the nest and fly on their own was fascinating. As I watched it I thought about how it is all mothers' jobs to teach their babies how to leave the nest and fly on their own. We aren't doing our job well if we don't make sure that they are comfortable out there without us. That being said it is SO HARD!

Mid, I also think it is hard for you not knowing when your ds will come home! The option to stay an extra two weeks sounds like you will be in suspense for awhile! Hang in there!!!

Thank you so much, ssc, for sharing your story and your encouraging words. We don't get to see the pics either (they will be shared "after" the entire camp is over we were told). We are just waiting for his first postcard to arrive hopefully tomorrow, and my husband will be calling the counselors to see how he is doing.

I just came back from the city. The weather was beautiful and I always love the city, but even the train ride reminded me of my son... It will take a while for me to "enjoy" the time without him...

But the BV F/W collection was

I reckon you rescued your beagles. Did you go down to WA to get Booker and Moose or did they fly/drive to you (I mean someone drove/flew them to you)?

There is a family in our comlex that fosters rescues. They get their dogs from all over the US and somehow manage to find a new home to all the dogs. I really admire their love for the dogs and the commitment.

I hope everyone had a fantastic 4th celebration! My dh is a pyromaniac, so we always have tons of (sometimes questionable) fireworks!
All the talk of kids going off to camp is making me nostalgic. My 2 kidlets didn't go to camp very often, so I didn't have the separation anxieties. My son went to boy scout camps, but dh went too a lot of the time, so that was easy. But I do understand how you are feeling with your little darlings away. I promise that it will get easier.

I was just on Ebay, looking at the BV for sale and came across a BV item being sold by a seller with the name stupidfatasslewis. Maybe it's just me, but I can't imagine buying a designer handbag from a seller with that name!

^^ Maybe a stupid question, was/is it authentic?

bags4fun, one thing I'm not happy about Jersey is that you can not buy fireworks. I grew up doing a lot of fireworks (handheld ones) at my backyard and I miss it every summer.

I didn't look closely since the seller name turned me off! But it was a small size capri that was in one of the colors that was in the last sale, so I think it could have been authentic. I just kept thinking about telling people ........." I just bought a new bag from stupidfatasslewis"

Who would call themselves that??? LOL

No fireworks here, too hot. They would probably light themselves! It has been over 100 everyday and with no rain. Miserable.

That would be quite mouthful to begin with.

kroquet, I wish I could send you our weather! We're finally in for a string of really nice "typical" summer days, with highs in the mid 80s and lower humidity. I know a little of how you're feeling, from my years in the south. I hope the heat breaks soon.

Mid- , Just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you. I hope each day is a little easier.

Even though my daughter who is at camp could call or text at night she did neither yesterday!!! I couldn't believe it. And then I tried to go online last night and look at the camp pictures and my computer wouldn't pull them up. I was very sad. ( I know exactly how you feel, Mid. )

I was able to get the pictures to work today and my daughter is in one, so I know she is ok (and that a broken arm did not keep her from texting me ).

The past few years since she's had a cell phone and has been doing sleepovers at other kid's homes, I have always sent her a text that says "Always say good night to your mother". It's our inside joke. And she always sends a text back that says good night. I've been doing it since she's been at camp (a whole 2 nights), but it obviously didn't work yesterday!!
