This weather is meant to prepare me for my trip to Ireland & Scotland next month...
I was hoping for some nice hot sunny days before having to go there and cool off, oh well...

Oh my, so many posts to catch up with! I enjoyed seeing everyone's creations. You all have so much talent!

jburgh:

Happy Birthday!!!!!!!
I hope you have a fantastic day with lots of treats! And speaking of treats, any BV Birthday Treats to report?

I love your bears! I have a huge soft spot for teddy bears, and mohair bears in particular. I collected Steiff for a while when my kids were young. Yours are just beautiful. I admit that I am one of those who always pulls up the dress to see what is underneath.

Ladies, would you be upset if a brand new leather chair arrived with scuffed edges on its arms? One was delivered yesterday and the edges of the arms are scuffed to the point where the color (red) is gone. The scuffs are around 1/2" - 3/4" long. I noted it with the delivery team and they called the store (not local) and the representative asked me to take photos of the damage and email them to him. I did, and then I heard back from him that they will be sending someone local out to "smooth and refinish the scuffs as new". Does anyone know what they will do to the leather to make it look "like new"? All I can think is they'll apply some sort of paint, which doesn't seem like a good (or long-lasting) solution to me.

Hmmm, can you still return it if you don't like how the repair turns out?
I might be inclined to return it if it's that bad, can you get a replacement or was it a one left or of a kind situation?

It was a special order. Before seeing the photos, the rep told me they would replace it if it didn't look like it could be repaired "as new", but I'm not making the choice of return vs. repair; they are. I can return it, but I pay original shipping, return shipping, and a restocking fee.

I've ordered from them several times before (Room and Board) and had a problem only one other time when the arm of a sofa had a small cut in the fabric. They offered to attempt to repair it or replace it, and I said I wanted it replaced, which they did without a quibble. I am really disappointed in their customer service this time around, and that I'm paying full price for a brand new chair which because of the damage, I wouldn't have purchased at full price if I'd seen it locally. I emailed them just now to see exactly what they propose to do to fix the scuffs - and if there is any kind of guarantee if the repaired areas don't wear well or if I don't like how they fix it.

Has anyone ever had to "repair" scuffs in leather - and if so, how did it work out?

Thanks for the birthday wishes. No BV this year, but a pretty abalone watch now lives here

goldenflower - I have never had leather furniture scuffs fixed, but there is a business in Seattle that does it. I hear they do a great job by using a leather dye on the scuffed area.

Your watch sounds pretty - any photos? I hope you're enjoying your day. Any cake report?

Thanks for the info on the business there. I doubt we have anyone too skilled in leather repair here (Podunk City) but maybe I will be pleasantly surprised at how it turns out.

I am getting ready for work, so no pictures and no cake.

The place that does leather repair is a rug cleaning service. Perhaps a local furniture store can recommend a good place for you.

Room and Board (store where I purchased the chair) is arranging for the repair, but I'm not sure what local store/company they will choose.

I hope you get some cake later! I'm all about cake (and presents too) when it's my birthday. I've never grown up, I guess!

Happy Birthday jburgh!

And your bears are adorable! How fun! I was several pages behind on this thread! Kids are home from school, so it's been a bit crazy here.
I have been working on a baby quilt for a shower tomorrow night, so I will post a pic when I finish it. Everyone is so crafty!
