^ Thank you again everyone!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bag!!! This is like my favorite bag now. Even my not-so-fashionista girlfriend asked me after seeing me with the bag: "Tina, is this a BV bag?"

Now, for those of you who have this ostrich bag, I actually have a question for you. If you look at the picture closely, you can see that the leather towards the lower left corner tends to have less, if not none, "bumps" (quill follicles). It's like that on both sides of my bag. I know this is how the leather on my particular bag is naturally. But I am just wondering if the ostrich leather is like that on your belly bag? At one point I was wondering if the pattern of the bumps would be more even on some patches than on other, that the leather patches on mine might be "substandard"?

Or, am I just being too paranoid?? XP

hikarupanda, my bag is the same, and I have noticed the same in picutures of lululala's bag - and I cannot remember seeing ssc0619's bag. IMO, that bag required a big piece of leather and that means that there will be a large section of the bird hide used and there will be some sections with bumps and contiguous sections without - just like you would see if you viewed the whole hide. BV tried to place these in such a manner that they were less obvious and more pleasing. This is not a sub-standard exotic hide - just the nature of a large piece of ostrich hide... the variability makes it more beautiful, IMO... remember handmade, and natural are often irregular, and I feel that that variability is part of the beauty. Don't worry, if we compared bags IRL, mine would look very much like yours - but not identical.

hikarupanda,

Mine has the same thing going on, but it is a little lower on the bag so you don't see it as well.

I took some up close pictures to show you.

This first one you can see it at the left on the bottom a little bit...

A little closer you can see it better

This is the other side of the strap....not the same side as above...

Where you see it the most though is on the bottom of the bag

I found this pic from Jane*Bond of her ostrich
I actually think the variation in the bumps is really cool!
didn't they do a great job of matching these?!

Thanks Ladies, so it seems that it is indeed just the nature of the leather, and BV did do a good job try to place the leather in a way that will look more appealing. I think since the copper color is not one flat color and the color does have variation, the pattern of the bumps does make it look even more interesting.

By the way, I found this "extra" bump right next to the "normal standard" bump (see white circles on pics). I am thinking the ostrich got a pimple that day!! LOL!!! Would you mind this pimple?

^Goodness, T!!! It must be your age - growing up in a world where things are made (synthesized) to look identical... NO! That "pimple" would not bother me at all!

ok - I suppose that you are familiar with silk - a natural product. In raw silk shantung, you will find slubs, thick threads and thin threads... the beauty is in the variation - it is a natural product, not synthetic. A very fine piece of handmade silk may look more regular, but the more you look at it, the more variablity you will see.

Ok - let's talk ceramics... the most valuable ceramics have flaws in the glaze and irregularities in fabrication - some purposeful, and some accidental. Still they are highly prized and treasured. Natural materials used, where much of the process is not industrially controlled - so hard to control firing to exactly reproduce two pieces exactly the same... the flaws are part of the beauty.

And finally, each child is different and not free from flaws (though we would like to think they are - yes I am a mother of a grown child). Yet there is beauty and charm in their imperfections; we tend to find these endearing.

So it is with your ostrich handbag! Embrace the natural beauty of it!

Hahaha, yes, it must be my age as I am REALLY young!! Hahaha, but no seriously, I think you are so right!

When you talk about children, I have to agree.. My baby girl's one eye is a little bit bigger than the other one BUT I think she's the cutest baby in the world!

Anyhow, I feel much better now!

What's so nice is that it will only get more beautiful the more you use it

I agree with Baggiana, it is just what happens with a natural product. No one else will ever notice these little variations. (In fact I didn't even notice any of it until I saw your post! ) What they will see is a gorgeous handbag!
