Default Mini Cabat - is it worth it?
Hi Ladies, I need you to talk me in (or out) of this. I am trying to decide whether I should get the mini cabat. While I know the workmanship is unbeatable as we all know. I am wondering if it's worth the $$$ since the mini cabat is a pretty simple looking bag and with NO closure! I def. worry about it not having any closure, and I am also not sure if it is comfortable when carried on shoulder (though I have seen modeling pics showing that it can be carried on shoulder, but is it comfy?). I like the Ossidato one but man I have never spent that much on a bag $4300 plus tax. Advice?

My current answer is "I think it's worth it", but will come back with more definite answer within a couple of days.

hikarupanda- i don't know about the comfort of the mini because i only have the medium and large but as to the value of the cabat syle- i think it is very worth it.
i now find it hard to justify other bags- i keep thinking if i don't get this it is that much more to put to another cabat. i find that the style really works for me. if i don't have much to carry i tuck in the sides- if i have a lot then i don't.
i keep most of my things in bv envelopes- it is just like the zipper pouch that comes with the cabat. i don't know if they are sold anymore but i know they can be special ordered. this way my bag stays organized.
the medium goes easily over the shoulder and i can keep one side on my shoulder and get inside the bag. in the winter with a heavy coat it does not go on the shoulder as easily.
the only thing i would advise is to choose the leather carefully. i got a large in vachetta and find it uncomfortably heavy. the ossidato may also be heavier than the nappa but in the mini it may not be a problem.
i feel it is a true work of art but very durable. sometimes i carry quite a bit and so far no problem.
hth and look forward to your reveal.

I have the small platino ossidato Cabat that you're considering. Whether it's worth it depends on what you want out of it. It's just what I wanted, so it was worth it to me.

For what it's worth, here is my feedback on my Cabat, regarding your questions/concerns:

*Simple-looking? Yes, it is. It's plain. I happen to like the look of it, but that is just my taste. If you prefer the more intricate and ornate BVs, there's nothing wrong with that at all. There's something for everyone, and there are a lot of BV lovers who just don't like the look of the Cabat.

*No closure? I have no concerns about having open-top bags, so it doesn't bother me. If you don't like open-top totes, then you won't like this--it's very open.

*Comfort on the shoulder? It is not my most comfortable shoulder bag. It has double-handles, so there are times when one will slip off the shoulder. It's also my heaviest BV (heavier than my Sloane, which is my next heaviest). When I carry it for errands or shopping, I either hand-carry it and occasionally shoulder it if I need hands free, or I shoulder-carry it if I don't have much inside it (and switch to hand-carry when my shoulder gets tired). My Veneta and Sloane are much, much more comfortable on the shoulder. I would say that the small Cabat is a tote that can be carried on the shoulder, while my Veneta and Sloane are "shoulder bags." (edited to add that the good thing about the weight of this calfskin leather is that it feels so sturdy and hardier than the nappa ones when I compared the two)

From what you wrote about the concerns you have about the Cabat, I wouldn't advise it for you. It's a LOT of money for something that won't suit your needs.

Thanks for your very honest answers. The bag is no doubt beautiful and like a piece of art, but you are right about whether it suits my needs. I am very picky when it comes to bags - is it comfortable on the shoulder, would one strap keep falling off? will it be too heavy? and yes, I feel that I need some sort of closure (like the large capri at least). And it is indeed a lot of $$$ if it doesn't meet my needs....
