Hi my BV experts... I'm looking to add to my BV collection with a lighter colored medium veneta for the spring/summer... i'm going for medium b/c in the hotter months, especially the humid NYC summer, i don't carry much... and i'm going for a lighter color b/c i don't have one... so far i have an old petra sloane, large nero veneta, small ebano campana, and a large limo veneta. i'm thinking the light pink from this season.
BUT, the main question is how do lighter colored BVs do over time? do they show wear faster, or does the quality of the leather prevent wear from happening? my limo i got last year but i've only worn it a handful of times, so I don't have enough to know from experience. have the new s/s 08 colors hit the stores? are they available in both medium and large venetas? i know that sometimes colors are only available in certain styles. thanks!

babyhart, I would imagine the leathers, regardless of the color, would wear about the same. The only downside, IMHO, is that the lighter colors show dirt more easily and if you wear denim or any fabric with an unstable dye, you need to think about color transfer. But that said, the new light colors are beautiful. I personally like Marmo. You're right, not all colors come in both medium and large sizes. I did have a list but I can't seem to locate it. If you call your nearest BV store they'll be able to tell you. Or if you pm me, I'll be happy to share the name and number of the SA/store manager that helps me.

Colour transfer from denim to light coloured bags will definitely happen. That's my DW's experience with her moutarde veneta, which got a little bluish area around where the bag contacts the jeans.

Does the leather tend to darken, also, from exposure to light, natural oils on hands, etc.? I believe some ladies who own pink and cream bags said the handles darkened...
I'm dying to add a pink BV to my collection but I just don't baby my bags. If it's not durable, I won't be able to keep it for long. |

i have a pink BV from last season, it did darken especially on the shoulder handle and a little on the bottom...i loved the color once i saw it and couldnt help myself not to buy it, i had it for almost a year now my only concern now is how can i clean these parts and make the color look the same? especially that i am not carrying it much now cause i dont want the color to be darker!
is it possible to send it back to one of the stores to fix it for me? answering your question, if the color is effected by the sun yeah it does and you can see it written on the small card left in the inside pocket along with mirror..... Thanks

I have a white (Bianco) large veneta, and although it is a joy to look at, it's probably one of the most high-maintenance BVs I own.
- The interciatto weave allows for the sides of each strip to attract dirt/dust which is noticeable if the dyed (flat) part of the leather is noticeably lighter - It is difficult maintaining the trim due to similar reasons but even more so because there is more of the "side parts" showing - Even if you use a damp cloth or wipe on the surface of your bags if there is any dirt, the dirt will not be removed from the sides of the strips - As some mentioned above, there will be color transfer from denim I still love my Bianco Veneta though. |

so here's what i found out, as i had to go to the BV boutique to exchange my ebano campana for a veneta. i liked the campana, but the handles kept slipping off, and it's too open for running around with my kiddies.
so i asked the SA about wear with the lighter colors. she said that the white is easiest to clean for BV and they recommend a conditioning with them after five years of use. the other lighter colors, like the pinks, the light yellows, every two years. but the conditioning will not get back to the original state of the bag. soooo, while i was very very tempted by the beautiful light pink, i went with the intagli ebano veneta just to be safe, since i would cry if my kids or i got ink marks or jean rub off onto the light colors. |

babyhart- i think that sounds like a good move.
i don't have any light colored bags and i know they say they can restore white but it still sounds quite high maintenance. i wonder if spraying it would help decrease the dirt sticking to all the surface area created by the weave? |

![]() good summary on how to take care of the bags Bunkie, except i dont do any of the above. it's kinda darken all over but i appreciate the "used" look of the bag so it's not sparkling white. does it make sense? like i prefer the look of the slightly dirty white bag. i guess i am kinda odd in this case.

I really love the Lotus and Magnolia colors....I think they're perfect for summer....but I can also see wearing them on a crisp winter's day!
Light bags are more difficult to maintain...no question, but I like to enjoy my bags. So, I'll probably get the Lotus and wear it's little heart out.....then pass it onto my daughter perhaps and get another fab light color! Just like a dark color, a lighter shade should be a staple in any amazing handbag collection! |
