I've been eyeing this bag on BlueFly for months now, and tonight the shoe dropped that the colour could very well be old petra... which I thought I had missed the boat on entirely by discovering BV after it had come and gone. Any thoughts? Has anyone seen this bag in this colour or any other colour for that matter? Is it really old petra?!
I have really liked it all along but wasn't sure about the colour - it is kinda Montaigne in size and shape, don't you think? And if it is actually old petra... Hmmm. |

BM, slightly off topic, but I just wanted to point out this older thread, in case you haven't already seen it. It shows an old petra BV purchased by tPF founder Megs, and the pics are great; really represent the color. Good luck with your search.

Thanks everyone! I'm not sure why it took so long for the penny to drop for me on this bag... Everything I've read about old petra (and everyone seems to agree that those pictures of Megs' bag are really good representations of the colour - thanks for the link cosmopolitan) makes me think it is an awesome and special colour, but it is hard knowing for sure without seeing it IRL. I noticed that Megs mentioned old petra was way better with her skin tone than magnolia - since I am so pale that I KNOW anything remotely pastel makes me look dreadfully washed out (in other words the entire BV SS'08 collection) I'm thinking Megs' comment bodes well for how old petra would look on me. Anyone out there with experience on how old petra looks with pasty really pale skin?
I wouldn't hesitate and would just go ahead and buy the darn thing and see the colour for myself except that returning from Canada gets complicated and expensive after the duties and taxes we pay when it comes into Canada in the first place. Somewhat off topic but does anyone know if you can get the duties and taxes back if you return something? I've always thought no but maybe I'm wrong... What to do what to do. |

Okay, I've ordered it... The obsessing was interfering with my getting down to doing the work I have to get to today, so I just went for it. Fingers crossed the actual bag I get hasn't been through the wringer and that the colour doesn't make me look even more washed out!

^Oh, we`re waiting for news updates, BM! I`m sure the colour is muted enough to be fine with your skin tone and since you love the Montaigne shape, you`re gonna like the flap satchel style. (I`m so sure someone else on the board got it, too, in Noce I think, I just can`t remember who it was- Mid-, can you do your search miracle?)

^I recall 24, Faubourg got this bag in OP and thought it was wonderful - very east/west, felt the flap wasn't cumbersome and she loved the adjustable handles like the Montaigne. Unfortunately the pics are no longer hosted and I believe she returned it simply because she was trying a lot of BV at the time and had too many to choose from - and I haven't seen her on the boards in a while
BM, I think you'll love it ~ everyone needs a piece of OP, and the shape is just your style! |

" The obsessing was interfering with my getting down to doing the work I have to get to today, so I just went for it"- I always have the exact same explanation to push the "place your order" button. It's just that I use this excuse too often...

BlueFly since last October, but once it did I really knew there was only one way to resolve it and just move on!!
And blugenie, thanks for reminding me that it was 24, Fauberg who had ordered this bag and talked about it here... I had searched back a bit last night but not that far but as soon as you mentioned that I remembered and I did find the old thread about this bag. Hope everything is okay with 24, Fauberg, too - has been ages and we definitely miss her (and her lovely pictures). I recall she was quite the Montaigne fan, too - no wonder she went for this bag as well (even if it was eventually returned)... And apparently the flaps can be tucked inside for a completely different look (it is hard to imagine without pictures but it was described as almost then looking like a little-cabat). I'm so excited! I really needed something to keep me going through this upcoming week of solid 10+ hour meetings each and every blooming day that I am absolutely dreading, so now musing over the old petra flap satchel will definitely keep me going... that and some under-the-boardroom-table tPF-surfing on my BlackBerry when things get really bogged down! |

Bookermoose, I noticed the bag was gone from BF...I'm glad it's on its way to you! As one fair skinned person to another, it'll be fine with your complexion. After all, you're not planning on wearing it around your neck, are you? :-) You're going to love it! It'll be a great addition to your growing family.
