I really feel and agree that a large part of the problem is that we are reachable 24x7, even when we’re on vacation, hence dimming the lines between work time and personal time during the workday and between weekdays and weekends. Plus customers are more demanding (oh no as a consumer am guilty of this myself!), everything just has to be “urgent” and “rushed”, and time zone differential also makes the work hours longer if you need to work with teams from other countries.
When I was younger and still single I could deal with this, but now it just kind of drives me nuts! This is probably why I don’t still have a baby…everyone I know who got married around the same time I did are either pregnant/pregnant again or already has a one-year old. I wanna retire too but first I have to make sure that there is a way to continuously fund my BV obsession

honestly, i enjoy working and it's probably because i don't work in a stressful environment. i do get annoyed sometimes at people that i work with but i tend to take a deep breath and let it not bother me. once i have the baby, i am facing the choice of staying home or working and have someone to look after him. i made the decision quickly; however, it's nice to have adult conversation instead of goo goo gaa gaa everyday at home with the baby. i love him to death but i do miss going to work and seeing people my age. so i am just really glad that i can log on to tpf and talk to you guys; it keeps me from going insane from staying in the house for too long.
as always, grass is greener on the other side

At this point (let me clarify that it is right at this particular moment as a result of being terribly overworked for the last 3 months and feeling horribly jaded from work and of some people related to work), the idea of being a SAHM is highly welcoming and of relief.

Wow, 13 hours is madness, I would have gone insane with or without the blackberry. I usually zone out after the meeting crosses the 4th hour or so!
When I was in Myanmar on holiday a few months ago it was pure bliss - no mobile or blackberry as there is no network for foreigners! |

I'm back at work today in the office (the organisation does not believe in blackberry or anything remote access). So actually having a blackberry would allow me better control of my time and place. The flip side is of course as already mentioned here, you're suppose to be contactable 24/7.
Honestly I think it really depends on one's boss whether he/she believes in a balanced life. But then there's always the demanding customer who doesn't seem to have that in his/her vocab much less in real life! |

to quote my boss, i work in an "own time, own target" sort of environment. that said, i am accountable for what happens in my own deals and there isn't a large team so i am usually working late or over weekends or flying in less than 72 hours because i just want to get the darned deal, well, done!
