What is the difference between the large BV hobo and the Veneta Maxi? I am referring to the Saks.com website. I looked at the Veneta medium size in the store on sale for $1380 and wasn't sure if that was a good price. If anyone hears of a BV hobo like those on SALE please let me know. I do not shop from anyone on Ebay just to let you know. My favorite is the Braided hobo but the sales girl advised me not to get it because she felt it was strictly a casual bag and I wouldn't get as much use out of it whereas the classic venetta could be worn with dressy and casual clothing. While that one was my favorite I held off because I believe she is right. Also, I'm looking for the bag to be in an Ebony color or black. I know. I know. I'm dreaming! LOL

The basic difference between the two is size. The design is the same. Maxi is a few inches wider and taller than the Large. The classic colors (including Ebano which is the dark brown, and Nero, which is black) don't go on sale, so you won't find a discount from stores on those. Seasonal colors will be discounted at the end of the season, but we can't always predict which will sell out before the sales.
The Veneta is the classic hobo, but if there is another BV style you really love, go for it! |

Thank you for the education. I also like (I think) trapezoidal. Basically I'm looking for a comfortable shoulder bag with secure closure. I would also consider a beautiful saddle color or eggplant! If anyone hears of it, please let me know! Thanks!!!!! (Forgive me - I don't know the BV colors!)

You may really like some of the Fall colors that are coming very soon. There will be some browns--Truffle and Whiskey. 2 purples are coming: Lilac and Grape. Along with some other interesting seasonal colors. We always have Nero and Ebano. The lighter brown, Noce is apparently being phased out. Maybe another brown will take its place.
Check out the Fall/winter 2009/2010 thread for photos of some of the colors. p.s. regarding color names--there are so many over the years that I have a very hard time with them too :-) |

The medium Veneta price is $1550, full price, if that gives you an idea about the $1380 sale price you saw. The BV boutiques are having their seasonal sales now, 50% on many styles (not nero or ebano Venetas, though), but I don't know what's left at this point--you could always call a store to find out what inventory remains. Check out the Reference threads--there are several that show colors and bag styles. |

Thank you boxermom and blueiris! I'm new to BV but there is some attraction. I think it's the buttery soft leather and the way it is interwoven and so unique. I love the idea of a dark eggplant color as well. Ok I will wait. As far as price, Saks and BV in NYC quoted $1950 for the medium veneta. That's weird! They r mostly sold out in all zippered top shoulder bags with the exception of bright granny smith apple green which I have no interest in. Oh well, patience!! Thanks you guys!!!

$1950 is the regular price for what BV (at least here in the US) calls the "large" Veneta. There is a yet larger size that BV calls "maxi." The department stores often make up their own names for colors, so they might also give different size designations (instead of BV's medium, large, and maxi, they might be calling them small, medium, and large). $1380 from $1950 sounds like a better deal than from $1550. You'd have to verify by measurements or style numbers.
As for dark eggplant, there was a color called turbolence from Fall/Winter 08. It's more purple than eggplant, but there you are. There are photos of it in the Reference section, I'm sure. You might see it pop up for sale somewhere along the line. |

OMG! I am so happy I listened to you guys! I think I like the shape of the Sloane bag better than the Veneta. It has a nice wide, flat strap as well. I love love love the bucket shaped bag with a thick braided strap. (Not sure what it's called) or what type of closure it has. It looks like it closes by a snap which I think I would be fine with. The thing is when I throw my bag down on a chair I don't want my contents spilling out
It looks like partial weaving and luxurious leather. Would love to buy that one on sale!!

First one is a large veneta, centre is pyramid and the last one is Sloane. As u can see, veneta is a hobo style with no base and no hardware. Pyramid and sloane do look the same in style but the latter is bigger in size with magnetic snap and zipper for pyramid. Both with wide base but pyramid has two brass buckle vs weaved buckle for sloane . |

OMG! They r gorgeous!!!!! I love the colors! I now understand the difference. Thank you! IDN they're all quite beautiful in their own way. I would be happy with any one of them to tell you the truth! I think I prefer the Sloane and Veneta but I really do love all three! Thank you for helping me clarify. Now all I need to know is when they have their next sale! I just bought a YSL so I have to wait a bit. But, I love having something wonderful to look forward to!
