Default "Clearance Delay" - my Ostrich Copper Belly Bag got stuck in custom?
Hi ladies, so since I cannot wait to get my Ostrich Copper Belly from Paris, I checked DHL tracking and it says "clearance delay" somewhere in Ohio. Is this normal? How long does this clearance delay take?? I am nervous! Anyone had bought bags from overseas?

The clearance delay happened to me when I ordered from Balenciaga Paris. I called DHL, and the man said it happened sometime, so I had nothing to do with. They hold my package for 24 hours and I received it finallly.

UPDATE! I called dhl, the lady at the import dept. told me that due to the value of the bag (over $2000), custom needs my SS# for custom clearance. Obviously I don't feel too comfortable giving them my SS, but I did a search on TPF and figure this is indeed the requirement....and I figure they must be doing this on a daily basis so that should be fine....so I just scanned and emailed the SS card to DHL import dept. They said they will forward it to their custom clearing center in Ohio and it may take about a couple of days to clear.....so we'll see.....

This is a little scary! I wonder if my experience will be the same though my bag has a much smaller value. I do not feel comfortable providing my ss number. Though the supervisors may be ok, the paper handlers can be otherwise. Maybe I had better buy identity theft security. BTW, what should I search on the forum?

Ok, I am just panicing... I am sure that all will be fine for both of us - I hope!

Dear Hikrupanda, Sorry I am late. I got my Ostrich Belly from London and it stucked in custom office several days as well. Don't worry, they might need you to fill a form or something. That's all standard procedure.

I just did a search on the forum (not just BV) about buying overseas, and I read that others have had similar experience providing the SS# in order to clear custom. I think a couple of members at the J. Choo forum did that...

^This is standard practice. I have purchased from overseas, and I had to do the same thing (w/ DHL). Fax the Social Security Card and info about the shipment (i.e. detailed description of the items, such as material, etc.). You will also get a bill from DHL later on. You'll have to pay duty on your items.
