Default BVs in your town / compliments on your BVs
Hi All,

I'm new to TPF and everyone has been so nice and welcoming. I've been admiring BV for 1 1/2 years and finally made a purchase fourteen days ago....a classic Nero medium Veneta and Anemone continental wallet. Needless to say, I am in love!

Just wanted to take a fun and quick survey on how popular BVs are in your town and the type of compliments you get from strangers when you're out rocking your fabulous BVs.

I love the, "I love your bag! What is it?" comments. It never gets old. I think in general, Bottegas are not as easily recognized as the more logolized brands, and that makes me love it all the more. It's beautiful, mysterious, and speaks for itself.

I have seen maybe three BVs, four at most, carried by other people in Vancouver in the two years since I discovered them. BV has absolutely zero brand recognition here - but I really don't mind that because I don't really like to come out from under the radar if I can help it.

In the two years I have carried BVs I have also only ever had one person (other than SAs in the one store here that carries BV) actually identify it as a BV - it was a cashier in the drug store and she was sooo excited to see it, especially when she saw that I also had a BV wallet! I do get comments from people who just like my bag without knowing what it is, but that one time was the only time someone has identified it as a BV. Again, I like being under the radar so that is okay with me!

Same here in Seattle...no brand recognition among anyone other than SAs at stores that sell luxury handbags. But I do get compliments on them occasionally from innocent bystanders. My rheum doc always says something, too.

Now I live in a small town where Vera Bradley (nothing against them) is common along with fake LV's. No one notices a BV or says anything.

However, when I am back in the Chicago area, DC, Charlotte, or any other populated area, people will notice, especially my Carmino zip wallet. It's bright and well-loved and I get compliments on it often.

I'm just minutes north of Baltimore. I live in the land of Vera Bradley. Burberry is fairly popular and so is LV since one of their stores recently opened here. I've seen one BV, a veneta, carried by a woman a few weeks ago. We exchanged smiles. My friends have no idea what I spend on bags and I'd like to keep it that way. If they did, they'd have me committed.

Here in Southern CT I've seen a few BVs. The flashy logo bags are not popular around here, except the fakes amongst teens. Lots of Coach.

I was at the Lambertson Truex boutique last year, I put my BV Sloane on the counter so I could pay for my purchase, the SA stepped back, called the other SA over and said, 'Just look at this... it puddles... the absence of hardware... love Bottega'. They were both men BTW!

In the town I live in they think anything bought from the local feed store is cool, so I never get any comments.

I live in LA, and although I get compliments on my bags, they are not necessarily identified as BV. One of the exceptions was quite unexpected. I was checking into the hospital for some outpatient foot surgery, and the young girl checking me in looked at my purse and said, "Is that a cabat?". I smiled and said yes, and she was so excited! It was very cute.

I live in Charlotte and work in LA so my BVs are complimented somewhat often. When out and about in Charlotte, the housewives at the mall and SAs notice the most. When in LA working, the studio execs really appreciate BV.

BV's are quite popular here in Boston...Venetas and Romas are common, but I have also seen an ash bond bag, ferro sloane, campana, 1 match bag in ebano/moro, and large capris..Have only seen 1 cabat in ebano in the summer here..

Every now and then I will see a BV, usually a Trust Dept client or one of the Bank owner's wives. That's when I hide mine. lol

I have a co-worker that covets my Ottone Sloane, though. She always comments on it.

In fact, she went to NYC on vacation and was walking on Madison and saw the store and went in and drooled. She said it was a beautiful store.

Only when I'm visiting a big city do I see BV or get recognized with one - until a few weeks ago when the SA at the local J. Jill said "gorgeous bag" then slyly under her breath "is that a Bottega?" I said "excuse me?" because I couldn't believe my ears! She was trying to be as low-key about it as BV. LOL. She said she used to have a creel bag, loved it... It was nice to have a BV-sisterhood moment, but I also felt so exposed!

I had a really weird shopping trip where every SA I saw commented on my bag. I think those SAs and my boss are the only ones who have noticed my BV bags.

Personally, I've seen four or five around town over the last year - about 1 for every 100 LV bags! and about 1 BV for every 1 Hermes bag. Interestingly enough, I see more Ferarris and Bulgatis in my area than BV, H or Bal bags (combined!)
