Default Birthday gift from husband
My husband just bought me a "cinched" shoulder bag/tote in noce (camel?) color as a birthday gift (he's so sweet!!! ). Then, I checked this forum & find that the Veneta & Montaigne are more classic & popular. I am thinking whether I should change it or not (my husband didn't mind if I really wanted). My bag is around SGD3,700.
  • Veneta has so many imitation, even my sister has one! However, I can get a medium Veneta + a wallet at SGD3,700 (can I?). I am 5'6" tall, is medium size too small for me???

  • I also like the Pleated Veneta & Montaigne, any idea that how much are they in Singapore? I don't want to add on too much money for exchange. Are the choices of color for this two model less than the normal Venetna?

I would like to get some idea from the expert in this forum, can anyone help??? Thank you so much!!!

what a lovely husband you have! show us a picture!

i am a big fan of the classic veneta. there may be fakes out there, but it really is a classic bag. medium is a great size, there is a pictures of one of our lovely tPFers who is 5 8 with her medium in the BV in action section. check it out.

however, get what you love.... and enjoy the "research." can you get to takashima or somewhere to test drive some bags?

wow, you're a lucky girl! happy birthday and congrats on your BV bag!

if your DH is like mine, he would also prefer for you to have something that would really make you happy, and wouldn't mind the exchange.

agree with doloresmia, maybe go try some of the bags on at BV and decide which color and style you like most and fits your lifestyle best?

... and some people say Montaigne isn't quite a real shoulder bag, if that matters to you.

Thanks ! My husband always says that I should have something nice because I'm getting old!!!

Planned to go to orchard on Wednesday, really want to get some expert's idea first. Actually, I saw the Veneta in the window display before & I thought it's quite common (sorry if someone feels offense). Until I saw the pictures of Reese Witherspoon in this forum (she's using black medium veneta), I find it's classic & easy to mix & match with casual wear!!!

My other concern at Veneta is that I always wear jeans & sandals, I worry that people will think I am carrying a fake!!!

Any idea for the pleated Veneta & Montaigne???

Here's the picture of my BV from my husband -

I love the cinched tote especially in that color! I am hoping to get that one someday. I just bought the montaigne and it's a great bag. I first thought I wanted the Veneta but tried it on and found it really wasn't for me. I researched and studied the pictures of the other styles and tried them on at the boutique. My favories are the montaigne, shoulder flap (not too popular but I still want it) and the cinched shoulder tote like the one you have. You really need to try the different ones out. I think you have a beauty of a bag though.

I was thinking BV's more expensive in Singapore than HK, my husband even told a sweet lie that the price was OK since the SA gave him 10% discount!!! I really believed him !!! Until I checked this forum & find no one got discount during the non-sale period!!! The price in Singapore is really expensive, the difference is enough to buy a air-ticket to HK!!!

Is the cinched tote a very old model? Not many people get it or talk about it!

I have the cinched tote in nero (black) and love it! I think because it doesn't have the profile of some of the "icon" or classic bags people therefore don't know as much about it as other styles, but I am not really a fan of true hobo styles like the Veneta, and therefore I really was drawn to this bag as a slightly bigger easily shoulder-carriable option to augment what drew me to BV in the first place, the Montaigne. I don't think the cinched tote's popularity is helped, either, by the fact it doesn't have a name - and I think it is sometimes also called the "double handled tote" to further confuse things (I just called it my "nameless tote" when I got it)! I'm not sure if BV does it in colours other than the classic neutrals, either, which tends to not therefore attract as much attention to it.

Before you decide, I would definitely agree with everyone that you need to go and see/try on for yourself whatyou really want - and go with that not what everyone else likes or dislikes for themself. I really don't think you can go wrong with ANY BV, though!

I know when I first came to the BV forum here at tPF I couldn't really find much discussion here about my beloved Montaigne - so I just started to talk about it (all the time...) and eventually others joined in! If you decide to keep your noce cinched tote (which is a lovely colour-bag combination, BTW), you and I will just need to start talking more about our cinched/double-handed/nameless totes here, and get others to join our club!

yyyyy, if I were you, I would not change the bag. I have two venetas and an open top tote style BV too (an older model). Well, the open top bag is much more functional, easier to get in and out. You'll love this bag. And the color is so classic. Enjoy it in good health!

Hi yyyyy, a belated Happy Birthday to you and congrats on the new BV bag. Your husband is really sweet!

On the point of getting 10% discount of non-sale period/item, not sure if BV in Singapore has the same VIP system as in HK. If yes, then it's possible that he can get 10% off from another vip account. No matter what, the key thing is that he gave you a nice gift and you love it, right? Enjoy the bag!!

Who cares if someone thinks you're carrying a fake? You know it's real, that's all that matters. You can't live your life worrying what someone else, someone you don't even know, might think of your handbag.

Just get the bag YOU like and don't worry about trying to please strangers on the street.

Well said, jane

yyyy - I love your cinched tote, and I'm glad BookerMoose posted about hers. It is a simple and elegant style.
