Default Ball vs. Veneta
I'm a newbie at BV and I'm planing to buy my first BV bag. I'm thinking about the large Veneta. But I have seen the Ball too, and I'm not shure, if the Ball could be better for me.
Please tell me about your experiences with these 2 bags. Are the handles of the Ball more comofortible (longer?)?
Thank you very much!

atlantique, your English is just fine, and welcome to the BV subforum.

I have both the Ball in nero (Old Ball actually) and I just bought a large Veneta in ebano. I love them both, possibly equally. I think the Ball, either new or old, can be used for work and leisure. The Ball is dressier than the Veneta especially the new ball with the gorgeous gold rings. Moreover, the larger the Veneta, the more casual it seems to be (i.e., the medium is dressier than the large, the large not quite as casual as the maxi).

The Old Ball, not the new, has four compartments, one large in the middle w/ a zipper. So if you like the compartments, the Old Ball has an edge.

I do think the large Veneta sits more comfortably on my shoulder and it slouches a bit more so its apt to fit better when wearing a coat.

Finally, if I had it to do over again, I would get the Veneta first, simply because it is THE classic BV (call me old fashioned). If you become BV obsessed, as I think you will, you may decide that you want a hobo shape for your first bag, and something completely different for your second, third....There are so many amazing choices!

Good luck, I think you will find many of the folks who frequent the BV forum are very helpful, incredibly knowledgeable and in love with the brand. I know you will be too.

What a nice and helpfull answer, bags'rus! Thank you so much! I think, that de Veneta should be my first BV - like an "appetizer" for the next BV bags!
I'm shure I'll love BV for a long time, because I think, the processing of the BV bags is very good and the bags are timeless and really beautiful (and not often to see!!). So I'm shure, that I'll buy more BV bags then "only" an appetizer....

I think all of the Ball bags (classic Ball, New Ball, and the revised Ball) are slightly smaller than the large Veneta in terms of capacity. Even though the large Veneta is flatter, I think it's taller and wider and can hold more as the contents of your bag settle towards the bottom (the bag doesn't stay flat while in use, unless it's mostly empty).

The Ball styles stay sleek-looking and in shape when worn. The large Veneta will form a slouchy look once you place your things inside.

I think both are comfortable on the shoulder. I didn't measure the handle lengths, but I was able to fit both styles over a light winter coat.

Good luck deciding!

I also have a Roma, which is a large bag with three compartments. It is more of a tote but can be worn as a shoulder bag. This was actually my very first BV, and it is am amazing bag. So different from the Ball and Veneta. The Veneta is the newest addition to my collection ( I have had it ONE day) so perhaps I am in awe of it. But IMO I think it is the best introduction to this timeless, elegant brand.

I know the Roma, bags'rus, and it's my second love at the moment! I think that the Roma will be my second BV. I'm looking forward to visit the store at the end of the month, after my holidays..

Welcome to the Bottega Veneta subforum, atlantique. I had to have a little chuckle when I read your "my second BV" comment.

atlantique, I have both. The veneta holds a bit more and it has the security of a zipper. The ball is more structured. It has a removable zippered pouch but the bag itself is open. There is a dog leash style lock that when secured makes removing the pouch difficult. If I want some security that's what I use. Both styles fit the same on my shoulder with a coat.

atlantique, welcome to the BV forum! Your English is very good--most Americans cannot speak or write in a second language, so do not apologize for your very good English!

You received some good answers about the 2 bags. I also have the original Ball bag in Ebano and I love it. It's comfortable on the shoulder. I've seen the newest version of the Ball bag and it's more like the old Ball than the one with the rings. The handle will be woven rather than smooth leather like the original. The interior will be like the original.

My Veneta is the large size and it's the most comfortable bag ever. The design of the strap sits on the shoulder and doesn't move until you decide to move it! It holds a lot and is very lightweight. It will drape to your body. You can't go wrong with the large Veneta.

Good luck and have fun shopping for your first Bottega Veneta. When you buy one, I hope you show us photos of it!

I admire you so much--you know all those languages! I tried French and German and wasn't a good student in language. You must have a natural ability.

We look forward to seeing your BV, whenever you get it!

atlantique - wow, you got talent in language! My daughter suggested that I should put 'Sorry about my BAD English' in my signature. I did not. But I know [and most time not know] lots of time I made mistakes. I do learn a lot English here in TPF !!
I have a Maxi Veneta that I love very much and have been using it for the last few weeks. Some people found its size overwhelming but I'm ok w/ it. I have a casual life so it fits well.
