Default 1st Bottega - need some help
Hi I've finally decided to buy the classic Veneta and decided on Ash color. But i'm confused about the sizes available. I saw a Small and Large in the shop. The small looks nice on me as I'm petite but the Large seems more practical. Does it come in a Medium Size? And is Large the 'classic' size as well? Thanks.

Hi, Annie. I'm only aware of the medium and large (there's also a baby version, but it' REALLY teeny). If you take a look at the reference threads, you'll be able to get a better idea. I have two of the medium, and they're plenty large. I think the large veneta might be too big for a petite person unless you like really big bags. Good luck and show us what you get!

From my understanding, different countries have different size designations for the Veneta. There is the mini size, which is hand-held and clutch-sized. From there, there are 3 more sizes. In the US, we call them medium, large, and maxi. Outside the US, those same 3 might be called small, medium, large.

As for which is the "classic" size, I have no idea. I would just get the one that you like the most. We all prefer different things, and sometimes the color of the bag affects the size choice as well. Hope this helps a little!

Thanks. I was told there are 3 sizes as well. So the smallest is probably the 'Medium' which is referred to here. Its definitely not hand held. The medium doesnt look like it can carry alot. Maybe I'm just comparing it to the Large.

I wouldn't call the "medium" (the smallest shoulder bag) small in capacity--the flat shape is a little deceiving because the sides expand and drape. The larger sizes are larger, no doubt.

I would suggest asking the SA if you can put some of your own belongings inside as you try them on. That way you can decide your capacity requirements. Plus, the bags drape differently when weight is added to them and you'll want to know that information, too. You can't really go wrong if you try them first.

Also consider whether you'd ever want to carry it on your arm or in the hand. I'm petite, too, and while I could hand/arm carry the "medium," the large is shoulder-carry only for me. I also note that I've read some comments suggesting that the handle drop (arm opening) is too constricting on the "medium." I have ample room with the medium, but it is something that is highly individual.

If you are in SG, their small = medium here on tpf. The handheld cutie size is called "mini". I don't have the regular veneta, only the pleated one but I prefer the Small (as it is called here in SG) eventho I'm 170cm (ard 5"6'?). It's up to indiv really.

Thanks for all the replies. Really useful. I'm going down to the shop again today and try putting my things in there. Will probably get the medium afterall. Looks over practicality. Besides, I carry too much nonsense around all the time.

This should clear things up . . . .

Bottega Veneta once made a Mini, Small, Medium, Large and Maxi Veneta.

BUT they've discontinued the "Small" and no longer make it.

However! For Cruise 2009/2010 they introduced the new Belly Veneta, which is in the middle of the Medium and Large size.

PS: The Veneta is a "classic" handbag, but there is no "classic size". Hope this helps !
