Default Sloane Bag , nero or blue black ?
Hi all BV lovers,

I am a new addict to BV bags, and currently I am eyeing on a sloane bag and would really like to own it in nero (black) color. My understanding from my reading up from this forum is that, nero is a classic color, and therefore should be available every season. I did not expect much difficulty in finding one in my local store actually. BUT, when I was down at the store today, I was told that sloane is no longer available in nero. In place of it is a color call 'blue black'. The SA showed it to me, it looked just like black ( under the dim lighting in the store). She took out a nero purse for me to compare the color with, and I think the difference is minimal. But I felt that the nero purse's leather looked more shinny somehow. So I would still prefer to buy it in nero if it is still in production. So, I have a little bit of doubt about the info given by the SA in the store. Is she telling me this so that she can quickly close the deal on the 'blue black' sloane or does any one have any idea whether the info she gave was true?
Thanks very much for any info relevant...

I don't know if they have discontinued producing Nero Sloanes but the one you described as "blue black" sounds like the color "Night". It's a very dark midnight blue and does look like black under dim conditions. I actually love that color but it's always relative to the beholder.

The difference in the "shine" or finish of the leather is due to the fact that some bags use nappa (Nero) leather as opposed to nappa umbria (Night). The latter slightly thicker in texture but also allows for color variation and extra gradients.

Thanks for the info TDL. I believe you are right.. the color should be night. But i really hates it when the SA do not talk in BV color language... maybe she think its easier for me to understand by telling me it's 'blue black'? I have also read that sloane are usually in nappa umbria... so could you advise me whether the wax coating makes the leather harder to maintain? In your opinion, does night and nero look very far apart under natural broad day light?

The Nappa Umbria is supposed to be easier to maintain--that's why the leather is treated. Some people say Nappa Umbria feels just like regular Nappa, but in my experience, it's firmer feeling and I can notice the coating or however it's treated.

Nero is a "classic" color, but not in the Sloane--it was a seasonal color for the Sloane. I have a nero Sloane, and my BV SA told me it was made for Spring/Summer 2008. It is not in current production, but there might be some still out there somewhere.

On this forum, I've seen references and photos to Sloanes in "night," which seems to be a black/grey, and "dark navy," which seems to be true to its name. If your SA describes it as blue-black, it could be dark navy. I've never seen dark navy or night in person, so I can't be of more help than that.

As for the shine or lack of shine, my nero Sloane--according to my SA--is nappa capri. I think my SA likened it to glove leather, and my nero Sloane indeed has a very soft hand and drape, it it seems to have a glow or sheen that my regular nappa items don't have. I don't think it's treated leather, but I think nero, generally, is pretty forgiving in terms of care and maintenance.

This is my bag (and you might see other helpful photos and posts there, too):
Sloane - PICS ONLY!!!

Boxermom,
thanks! i am glad to know that it is not difficult maintaining nappa umbria ...

Blueiris,
yes I have looked at all the sloane pics in the thread and your nero sloane is very lovely... too bad i think its too late for me to get my hand on one by now. Seems like this is indeed a seasonal item.... and I am not sure what to get now.

Carrera - I also wanted the sloane in nero and was told the same thing by my SA. I ended up buying the night sloane, and to tell you the truth, it looks black to me. It is such a rich dark color, that unless you put it right next to a black bag and look closely, you can't really tell the difference. I wear black a lot, and even next to my clothes, i dont' see a difference. I posted some pictures of my night sloane next to some othe black BV bags when I did a reveal early in the summer. Hope this helps.

LOL!!! I am still hiding the majority of my BVs from him... They will come out little by little over time so he doesn't know how nuts I went. I really do love the night sloane, even when i put it next to my black BV bag, I don't really see a difference. If they hadn't told me in the store, I wouldn't have known. But you should be comfortable with your choice, and love the bag you pick, so I would suggest trying it on again and maybe taking it outside in the light of day. Maybe try it on with a black outfit?

Carrera, just to confuse you some more, the Nero did come in Nappa Capri & nappa Umbria. Here is a side by side of both Black/Grey Color Family- PICS ONLY!!!
The Hawaiian SA told my friend her 2007 was Nappa Capri, my 2008 is Nappa Umbria. I did not take pictures of her bag's inside label which did say 2007 and would also have the code for the Nappa... wish I had.

Sloane is a beautiful bag!!

Then maybe it's the dark navy? There is a color called "dark navy" for the Sloane, but I don't know the color code.
