Default Please READ THIS before posting in Authentication thread
Hi everyone -

We have a new set up for Authenticating Bottega Veneta items. Hopefully this will be helpful to keep the threads easy to navigate, easy to respond to, and be an overall better for all involved.

Before you post in the Bottega Veneta "Authenticate This" thread you NEED to read the rules!!!! This will make it easier for EVERYONE and really make the chance of you getting your question answered much better.

Please follow the following rules:

Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated. This is not a thread to ask general questions about Bottega Veneta, please refer to our reference section for such information. Finally, do not submit requests for something that is obviously a fake, e.g. the item says it is a replica, or a $50 Montaigne.
This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:

Item Name:
Listing number:
Seller name or ID:
Working Link:
Comments:

Authenticators are not required to answer every request, and it is their right to ignore a request that is not in the proper format.
Authenticators may also request additional pictures and/or information in order to assist with authentication. Please remember, it is always useful to have several close up pictures when submitting an item for authentication.
Please do not intervene to confront a troll or rudeness on the boards, just use the REPORT function (button) to alert the mods, and let them handle it from there. In the meantime, just ignore the poster until a mod can intervene.
Always be respectful when you post and treat others as you expect to be treated. This is an open thread and everyone is welcome to participate.
Do NOT PM an authenticator or moderator to request authentication. Any and all such requests must be posted in this thread.

Disclaimer:
All Authenticate This threads on tPF are meant to provide assistance to shoppers who are uncertain about the legitimacy and authenticity of designer goods. The evaluations posted by tPF's members are only opinions that stem from personal experiences as shoppers and collectors. They are not legally binding or professional authentications and are not to be treated as such.

For questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact the forum administration via the forum's contact form. http://forum.purseblog.com/sendmessage.php

Jburgh - THANK YOU for posting this sticky!!!!

For those of you requesting authentication, here are the types of pix that we typically like to see

1) readable views of the BV embossed logo inside the bag; metal plate, etc.,
2) readable views of both sides of the certificate of authenticity inside the bag
3) underside of zipper hardware
4) and any details of the leather, weave, handles etc.,

I do hope we could somehow direct first posters to this information/requirements. If they come directly from the link in Vlad's Authenticate This thread, they won't see this, will they? Or at least, keep this thread on the top of the stickies.

Ya?

Thank you, jburgh. I think all the designer forums will be adopting this general format.

Lightbulb Compliance with format
It seems that we are having some issues with format compliance. I thought I would perhaps spell out more clearly the reasons why the standardized format is required:

1. Allows authenticators and requesters to see all information laid out in a clear and concise manner, upfront, without wading through links to find out information.

2. Allows requesters to easily see if the items have been previously requested, when doing a search. Searches will pick up item numbers, and this is what requesters should be searching for.

3. Allows both authenticators and requesters to mentally note important information, such as "That seller sells authentic" or "Seller XXXX is a problematic seller."

4. Reduces duplications of requests which clutters the thread and takes up unnecessary time and space.

5. Respects the personal time and effort authenticators take to answer requests.

I hopes this helps.
PM me if you need further clarification.

Default Help understanding the rules, please.
I don't always know the "Item name". Most of the bags that I'm interested in are not on-line, so I won't have a listing number or a seller name/ID. What is the "working link"? I don't mean any disrespect. I honestly don't know how to follow the new rules. Thank you

Since most of our authentication requests are for eBay items, the information we ask for is geared toward their listings.

If you are asking about a bag of your own or one in a consignment shop, for example, you can give it a generic name such as "Bottega Veneta tote". For seller, you can say "my bag" or whatever is closest to the source of the bag. If you have your own photos, you don't need a working link or item number.

We're not absolutely rigid. We see a variety of questions and do out best to help everyone with the bags and accessories they are interested in. This format is also used in Hermes and maybe some other designer forums, too.

I hope this helps, lace.

Can you re-post this in the "Authenticate This Bottega Veneta..." thread? The thread you are in merely explains the format and you did that perfectly.

To comment on these sandals, I have to say I've never seen the style before and he realy does have a lot of them. That makes me a lttle nervous about the authenticity. A barcode on a box doesn't prove authenticity, as he said. anyone can print a barcode and stick it on a box. In his feedback, one comment said the item he sold was fake.

Maybe someone else will have more knowledge of these, but there are some warning signs about the seller that would make me stay away.

No, this is not true... the majority of items that I see are not counterfeit, but there definitely are some in all categories. But if you are cautious, you can post the auction in the authenticate thread and we will help you decide whether the BV is authentic or not. With regard to the low offers, it takes all kinds. If you wish to discuss this further, you can do so in the eBay forum rather than here.

Hi,

I am watching this item in ebay and questioned the seller about the authenticity since the price is low $249. Here is her response where she suggests I contact you. This is my first post.
