Default HELP. spilled a bit of hand sanitier on my bag and now it has a dark spot D:
I have a medium sasha duffle in cocoa, and I was an idiot and accidently spilled a little bit of hand sanitizer on it. The spot turned black at first and then lightened to a bit darker than the leather around it. Will leather conditioner help even it out? What do I do?

Thank you in advance.

Ah, I can't edit it, but it's actually in chocolate. Is nobody responding because I made a typo on the title? :P

I'm guessing the alcohol in the hand sanitizer might have gone thru the leather. Conditioner wouldn't hurt, if only to moisturize and even out the mark. From how you describe, the leather color might have been bleached a bit and caused that type of "water stain" on your bag...

The spot where the hand sanitizer dropped is a blackish brown, and is darker than the rest of the bag. So, do you think that conditioner would kind of make it blend in to the rest of the bag so it's not as obvious of a spot?

My mother always told me to mix a hint of lemon juice and warm water and then use a qtip to gently go over the leather to get darker spots out. I would be very gentle though since you are dealing with such a precious bag. You might just dab a very tiny spot to see how it would react.

That's something I haven't heard before. I'll definitely try it and tell you how it goes.

You might want to try some leather/conditioner on it. Last week I treated my Rebecca Minkoff Nikki with waterproof spray, so in order to see if the spray works, I intentionally spit a big drop of tea on my bag, it left a big dark mark, I let it dry first but the dark mark just stayed there. I then sprayed my leather cleaner/conditioner on it and waited it to dry, and the dark spot miraculously disappeared.

I don't live in the US, so the leather cleaner I used is just a local brand where I live. But it's a watery transparent spray, I have used it on all kinds of leather handbags, even on coated Canvas of LV and Burberry. It actually turned my dirty Burberry tote into an almost brandnew one!

Try to find a good leather cleaner/conditioner, it will come handy when you have this kind of emergency.
