This reminds me of the slate blue issues on certain Kooba bags a few years ago. Is there something inherently problematic with blue dyes and leather?

I wonder if it's lighter blues or if it's the type of dye used or something. I have a few darker blues (not navy, but cobalt) and they're all fine.

I'm wondering if my moss green Logan will slowly turn brown.

I don't know if this is a problem, but I remember seeing somwhere in this forum where someone pointed out her black bag is not really black. I'm in the same situation with my black mini rivington. Today I saw the bag under natural day light and noticed the bag is not entirely black but with some kind of bronze/metallic undertone. I am not sure why the black leather is like this, but I really hope the color will not fade over time.

I bought the Uma tote in black and ended up taking it back because my husband said, "Wow, you got a brown bag. You never wear brown bags." Indoors it looked fine but outside it was obvious that the leather on the body was much lighter than the leather on the straps which were undoubtly black.

^^^I have the venice in black and the tao in black and those look black inside and outside in the natural light. I have used both quite often and there doesn't seem to be any sign of fading. I notice my aubergine uma does seem to have brown undertones to it. Even the backside of the tassels are brown. It still shimmers purple in the light but inside it is a dark bag and sometimes it does look brown. I'm wondering if it is because the leather feels a little thinner but at the same time it is sooo soft!

^^^ Hi! I'm the one that commented on the logan color. In case it helps you feel better, it's definitely not fading. I spoke to the Botkier Nolita store and the color is definitely intentional - the sales person said they had "a range" of blacks.

Also, the logan is perfectly matched all over (and I've seen several that are all the same color) - I had an Ocean feedbag that was reverting to brown, and it was patchy.

The logan color is hard to describe - the best I can do is that it's a black black leather, but with a slight taupe/bronze metallic sheen to it. I think it's the sheen that makes it look lighter - at night, it looks black black.

From your descriptions, I feel like I have the same black leather on my black mini rivington. I don't really mind though, since I have many black bags already and this one is kind of interesting from my point of view, as long as it doesn't fade.

Hi everyone! I certainly need to speak up with my experience regarding my Logan N/S satchel, but I apologize in advance for the longish rant to follow. This Logan is the black "crackle glaze", purchased September 2009 through Amazon. The appearance was/is a true black, is slightly shiny and I see no undertones or hints of any other color or sheen. Initially, I felt the overall appearance/finish was great, and only a little disappointed in the antique brass hardware (and adjusting to carrying such a large bag!). Regardless, the styling was fab and I resolved to love it.

Well, my feelings about the bag were challenged when after only *5 weeks* of gentle use I discovered a faded patch on the backside of the bag. It was about 1.5-2" and looked like maybe it hadn't received an equal amount of the glaze? and the color seemd to be rubbing off making that that spot looked greyish and dull. I panicked, thinking I had done something to cause this, like maybe it had rubbed against a belt I had worn. But, not a chance- I tried on the only belt that concerned me and the bag together and looked in the mirror, modeling every way I thought I would have carried the bag. There really was no way that the discolored area matched up; it was not a case of abrasion or misuse.

I checked Botkieer's website and they say that colors will "rub off". It seemed clear that they make no warranty against what I saw happening on my Logan. Nevertheless, the bag being so new (and not cheap! even at my discounted price), I contacted Botkier. I asked if they would just ought look at it, couldn't I just ship it (at my expense) for their inspection and assessment. I received a friendly enough response, but they asked me to provide photos of the problem area. Believe me, I tried, but the bag is black and somewhat shiny- trying to photograph this faded area is virtually impossible! I reread the (non)warranty and honestly felt hopeless. I decided to try and overlook the flaw and just love the bag since the rest of it looked good. The other sad thing was that it was my first "big" bag purchase. I took pics of myself wearing it and that is when I joined TPF. Well, before I even posted those pics, that is when the problem started. I felt soooo disappointed- I never put my pics up, never even made a profile pic and eventually never posted about other bags I have bought since This even includes one other Botkier, a 2009 Trigger Moto clutch in antique silver (also purchased through Amazon) which I adore! The finish of that metallic bag is phenomenal- I do baby my bags, but the metallic is holding up beautifully through regular use.

Fastforward to today- I still have the Logan satchel. I put it away for quite a while. It just depressed me. Then, around February, I decided I should suck it up and wear it some before spring. I carried it a fair amount and noticed the greying faded spot was expanding and more areas looked patchy, too. Now, I will say that it does appear to be a product of rubbing, since it is really only the backside of the bag where I see this problem. However, I am still beyond disappointed because 1) it first appeared after only FIVE weeks- I had used it fewer a dozen times! 2) I have always been careful/gentle- no abrasive or careless action caused this 3) this bag retailed for $695!! and this is the best quality control you get? I never tried to contact Botkier again, because the more time went by, I felt like I would simply be blamed for the wear (though I documented the problem when it began), no picture really would tell the story, and, besides, their website spells it out- they take no responsibility/they state that color rubs off... ok, but the final straw for me was when a couple months ago, I carried the Logan while wearing white jeans. After just a few hours, I looked down to see black all over the pocket/hip of my nice, clean white pants I put it in the dustbag and there it has stayed.

I think that Botkier does a fantastic job of their metallic finishes. But I will absolutely never buy a black Botkier again and honestly will have to think long and hard before making another Botkier purchase again. In my experience they did not stand behind their product. If you tell someone their product is failing after five weeks of purchase, I feel they should have taken it back with no questions asked.

Now I will have to pull myself up by the bootstraps and post my other lovelies here! Thanks everyone for sharing.

Thank you for sharing your experiences! I typically go with brighter colors or browns, I was starting to think I needed to add some black, maybe I should reconsider that. I too have been disappointed by botkier's unwillingness to stand behind their products. It seems as though the other retailers who carry their products do. I truly love their bags, great design and functionality, wonderful leathers, but have had some issues. Needless to say, just a little bit disappointed for the kind of money it cost.

Wow, Danishchair, I am sooo sorry to hear about your experience with the black Logan satchel. I have a black Bianca satchel that I bought in 2008 and used every day for over a year. It still looks perfect. I wonder if the issue is with certain types of finishes or leather? I own 3 other Botkiers- Uma satchel in ash and emerald and the Venice hobo in hot pink. So far I haven't had any issues with them. I was thinking about buying the Logan satchel in black, but based on your experiences I think I'll pass. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Botkier Clyde Trigger-Black leather

Sorry ladies but I wasn't following this designer when this bag was released. I'd assume it's atleast 3+ years old.

-I bought it gently used off of Bonanzle
-It came with it's cards & extra tassles

***I only own one Botkier bag, the majority of my collection is Coach with some MK, Gianni Bini and other designers. I'd have to say that the average bag in my collection retails for $400-$600 so take that as you will. I've owned Coach legacy bags like the Gigi and Leigh that are suppossed to be Coach's ultimate in leather and quality. I don't know if I just got lucky with my one and only Botkier, but this bag appears to be TOP QUALITY and stands up to those words!!!

Keep in mind that this bag was used already when I bought it, and it still looks like it's been carried for maybe a couple weeks. This is one of the bags in my collection that I hold in highest reguard as far as DURABILITY!!! I've carried her quite a bit (as much as I carry any bag in rotation) and she's a TROOPER!!! I do care for my bags well, but when I use them they are filled up and USED!!

The ONLY potential problem I see if when I carry her my her long strap that is attatched with brass dogleash clasps is it is starting to pull the leather on the bag itself. I blame this mostly on myself for loading her up so much and in no way think it's bad quality.

Wow, danishchair, that sucks! I have the Sydney bag with the same black glazed crackle finish and although mine hasn't begun to show wear even after months of daily use I will be absolutely sure not to wear it with white *just in case* it's the day I wear white that it decides to rub off. What a disappointing purchase, and I agree with you, regardless of what you actually paid for it, it was a $695 bag and at that price the quality should be impeccable.

I haven't had any issues with either of my Botkier bags. Both look wonderful and have held up great despite being in regular rotation.

Problem: The leather around the piping rubbed off after a year and a half of use, to reveal a black rod. I baby my bags, and never put them on floors. How could this have happened? Rubbing against my clothes perhaps? Either way, that doesn't make it very durable, does it? Thinking about selling now, but who's going to want a bag in such condition? Nobody. The rest of the bag is in perfect condition, because like I said, I baby my bags. I'm never buying Botkier again. Unless its nylon, and that's a BIG maybe.
