Am I the only one who is getting tired of all our beloved name brands going to target?I dont know, on one hand I think it's nice that someone can have the quality/craftmanship of a name brand for less.

But I for one can't stand that their isnt at least a name change when these products go to target. If it's a different line within the same company then give the new target products a different name, and put made by Botkier or Gryson etc.

I just don't like the idea of me saving so so long to buy a botkier or a gryson, just to have the name itself become GENERIC.

Sorry JMHO...Anyone else feel this way?

^While I don't necessarily have a problem with these designers designing lines for target per se, I do get slightly annoyed when the "for target" bags look just like bags in the designer's usual line. While I do understand that the materials are quite different, I don't understand why the designer doesn't come up with different designs. For instance, in the pics above, there are bags that looks dangerously close to the bianca and the nightfall hobo/satchel. Of course, TPFers can tell the difference, but many cannot.

I have to agree. For a while I wanted the Gladiator shoulder bag (my first post in this forum) and but got the Bryant Hobo (a steal from eBay). After looking at the post and article, I am glad I didn't get the Bianca which is on sale right now at Lisa Kline (I got the urge after seeing it in person at the Nail Salon yesterday ). It's not an exact match to the Bianca, but close enough that I will wait to buy - and check out the Target line.

I think the main line (is that what it's called?) from the designer is better quality. I hope I don't come off as snobbish. But, the Target line is supposed to be more accessible to the masses and if it's so much more "affordable" aren't the designers worried about "devaluing" their brand? I would imagine the ability to profit and reach a mass audience does have its appeal though. I do remember though that Calvin Klein did sue over something similar though (though his products, including leather good can be purchased in all price ranges everywhere).

I saw that Anya Hindmarch is also doing a line for Target (this October). I wanted a clutch of hers for ages and it's been sold out and there are also a lot of knockoffs out there. At this point, I wonder if I should just wait and stalk the target.com site (no snark intended) and save myself a ton of money. Does anyone one else feel the same about Botkier and other designers?

I think the clutches look similar to the Lorca by HH. I like the styles though!

Nothing I love, but I gotta say, for the price point they are charging they did a pretty good job! I don't mind that the designs are similar to the regular line because the materials are totally different (PVC & cloth and similar, I am assuming, vs. the regular leather Botkier uses!)

Yes thank you....Thats exactly my point. I feel like it almost takes away from the unique designs that we have already grown to love..

You have a valid point...

I brought up a couple of similar points here.Click here: Am I the only one who is getting tired of all our beloved name brands going to target - The Purse Forum And I dont think that is was received well, or in the way that it was intended. I think some people took it the wrong way. They figured that I didnt want to share with people who couldnt afford the BRAND, etc. And then scrutinized everything I said . I was just looking for opinions on an open topic, that I myself was torn on. It was definetely not meant to be taken that seriously. I had not meant anything in a bad way. But now I'm afraid to even go back and check the other responses lol.

I'm glad to see that you guys get what I mean.

I read through the thread you linked and I think the point was missed a bit. I don't think you were trying to be elitist. I will admit, I am excited about AH going to Target - just to see what she brings, but, that doesn't mean I am going to be purchasing AH for Target either. I just haven't not had the opportunity to get my hands on a AH bag yet, and want to see how her Target line compares to her main line.

I do understand that these designers, Botkier for example (to keep this on topic) want to increase sales and market share but, I also think these mass produced lines (even if they are only for a limited time), will come at a price. A poster on that thread used an example similar to mine in terms of licensing (I believe that Izod was used). CK did the same thing and you can still find his products everywhere in all markets (from Marshall's/TJ Maxx to Macy's and higher). To be honest, it has affected whether or not I will pay more money (hundreds) for a CK bag at Macy's for example, when I know they same or similar version can be purchased for a fraction at a discount store. Again - hoping I do not come off as a snob just trying to be practical in terms of dollars spent.

I guess I just think it takes away from a 'specialness' (is that a word?) or uniqueness of their brand not so much as exclusivity and do not think it helps in the long run. Does it increase their name recognition and profits? Sure. But, I don't think it makes one an elitist to say they do not feel as good about their bag when they see a cheaper version of it at a discount store.

I also think you had a great point about at least changing the name of the bags (or line) when doing lines for discount stores - I believe some used to do that, not sure though. That being said, if they want to get their brand (meaning their names) out there, it would defeat the purpose, unless they let it "leak" that's who they were.

It will be interesting to see the feedback regarding the Botkier for Target bags though. I am sure they will sell.

^ITA..& Thank You. I was starting to think that I must of come across horribly, or said something extremely wrong or rude.
BTW to me specialness & uniqueness both ROCK. They both seem like words that just fit..lol

Ralph Lauren- I believe does rename or distinguish his products. I think he has a blue label vs his more affordable line (not sure of the exact terms)
Jennifer lopez has Jlo clothing vs. Sweetface- the higher end brand.

I think it's interesting that some designers do choose to distinguish one line from the other. While others maintain the brand name throughout all their ventures

Wow, I said this before in the other forum - way disappointed.

I just would have thought Monica would have redesigned the Target line instead of just changing a few things in previous styles. They look kind of like knockoffs to me. Not impressed yet I hope those who have not discovered Botkier yet will be turned onto the brand from this point on.

I think you really have to look at them first! I think the Gryson line looked really plasticly. I think a leather handbag looks totally different that man made stuff. Leather stays forever and the man made stuff lasts a season.
