I think some people took it the wrong way. They figured that I didnt want to share with people who couldnt afford the BRAND, etc. And then scrutinized everything I said . I was just looking for opinions on an open topic, that I myself was torn on. It was definetely not meant to be taken that seriously. I had not meant anything in a bad way. I'm glad to see that you guys get what I mean.

I read through the thread you linked and I think the point was missed a bit. I don't think you were trying to be elitist. I will admit, I am excited about AH going to Target - just to see what she brings, but, that doesn't mean I am going to be purchasing AH for Target either. I just haven't not had the opportunity to get my hands on a AH bag yet, and want to see how her Target line compares to her main line.
I do understand that these designers, Botkier for example (to keep this on topic) want to increase sales and market share but, I also think these mass produced lines (even if they are only for a limited time), will come at a price. A poster on that thread used an example similar to mine in terms of licensing (I believe that Izod was used). CK did the same thing and you can still find his products everywhere in all markets (from Marshall's/TJ Maxx to Macy's and higher). To be honest, it has affected whether or not I will pay more money (hundreds) for a CK bag at Macy's for example, when I know they same or similar version can be purchased for a fraction at a discount store. Again - hoping I do not come off as a snob just trying to be practical in terms of dollars spent.
I guess I just think it takes away from a 'specialness' (is that a word?) or uniqueness of their brand not so much as exclusivity and do not think it helps in the long run. Does it increase their name recognition and profits? Sure. But, I don't think it makes one an elitist to say they do not feel as good about their bag when they see a cheaper version of it at a discount store.
I also think you had a great point about at least changing the name of the bags (or line) when doing lines for discount stores - I believe some used to do that, not sure though. That being said, if they want to get their brand (meaning their names) out there, it would defeat the purpose, unless they let it "leak" that's who they were.
It will be interesting to see the feedback regarding the Botkier for Target bags though. I am sure they will sell.
