I am an american citizen and don't often venture musically out from what I hear on the top-40 radio.

I did however, recently get linked to the Korean music video below and laughed and enjoyed the song. And it made me realize how insulated my tastes are. I like US pop stuff and local Hawaiian artists, but beyond that I don't have any idea who the popular bands/artists are world wide.

tPF members come from around the globe, so I'm hoping to get some suggestions from all over!

I'm English/Irish, dual Canadian/US citizen living in Toronto, so I'm not technically "around the globe" but I'm a huge K-Pop fan.

I do not speak Korean and thus have no idea what they're saying, but they're so damn catchy. When I discover a song I like I either try to find the English lyrics or I try to enact some sort of English subtitles on the video.

I first discovered K-Pop when Perez posted 2NE1's Fire, Big Bang's Gara Gara Go and Seungri's Strong Baby on his website (he often posts K-Pop on there). Then one of my coworkers found out I had those songs and he gave me names of groups to check out.

About a year later, during a random internet search I landed on a blog called eatyourkimchi.com. It's done by a Canadian couple living in Korea. One of the segments they do is called K-Pop Music Mondays, where people vote on the music video they review.

My current favorites:

Monster by Big Bang

I Am the Best by 2NE1

(In my details, I have "I am the best" in Romanized Korean.)

0:09 mark - CL - Rapper, 2NE1's Leader
0:40 mark - Park Bom - Lead Vocalist
0:55 mark - Dara - Vocalist
1:10 mark - Minzy - Dancer

Sherlock by SHINee

0:30 mark (from L to R) :
Taemin - Lead Dancer, Vocalist
Onew - SHINee's Leader
Jonghyun - Lead Vocalist
Key - Vocalist, Lead Dancer, Lead Rapper
Minho - Lead Rapper, Vocalist

One week, K-Pop Music Mondays featured this video.

Simon and Martina pointed out that there's a part in the song that sounds like "Soy un Dorito" (hence my avatar) and since I heard it, I can't unhear it.

The videos I saw on Perez:

Strong Baby by Seungri

Fire by 2NE1

Gara Gara Go by Big Bang

Lollipop 2 by Big Bang

0:17 mark - Taeyang - Dancer
0:33 mark - Seungri - Vocalist (He's in PSY's video, too! He's the "old man" on the right at the 0:52 mark)
0:42 mark - Daesung - Lead Vocalist (He's in PSY's video, too! He's the "old man" on the left at the 0:52 mark)
0:50 mark - G-Dragon - Rapper and Big Bang's Leader
1:54 mark - T.O.P. (my favorite!) - Lead Rapper

Because Perez featured Gara Gara Go on his website, the guys from Big Bang put in a nod to him in Lollipop 2 at the 1:15 mark.

hello!
Hi JKP :)

I've been into a lot of JPOP for a while now and a little KPOP. My favorite artists in JPOP are Namie Amuro, Daichi Miura, Crystal Kay, and Kumi Koda.

As for KPOP, I enjoy Super Junior and Girl's Generation. I most recently started listening to TVXQ and I'm hooked. I'm going to watch the vids caitlin posted. I want to expand on what I listen to in KPOP.

(YG Entertainment, also known as YG Family, is the label that represents, among many, Big Bang, 2NE1 and PSY.)

Hot Issue by 4minute

Only You by 2PM

(These are artists my friend at work told me about.)

No More Perfume on You by Teen TOP

As much as I love this song, the message in it stinks. He's telling the older woman he's secretly seeing not to wear perfume or body glitter because his girlfriend would find out about them.
