Wow, I've seen Cats on stage but for some reason didn't know it was also a movie! I really am getting forgetful.

Live performance isn't cheap for most people to attend and enjoy. Even our community theater in the Chicago burbs was fairly pricey and when we could we'd splurge and go into the city for touring shows or once in a great while, travel to NYC or see shows in London.

I'll have to look for the Cats dvd.

Hi! I just discovered this thread. I love theatre and adore musicals. I have so many favourites. Over the past few years we have been fortunate to see many shows. These include:

Wicked
Jersey Boys
The Lion King
Phantom of the Opera (my favourite musical of all time!)
Love Never Dies (didn't like this at all, I don't think it blended well with the original POTO)
Chicago
Cats (loved the story. So clever!)
Shout!
West Side Story
Hairspray (Adored this!)
High School Musical
The Boy From Oz
Annie
Billy Elliot (this was wonderful!)
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Little Women
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Rent
My Fair Lady
Avenue Q
Fame
Mary Poppins (I was very disappointed in this)
The Buddy Holly Story

I'm sure there are more but that's all I can think of. Next year we have some new musicals coming here. Legally Blonde, An Officer & A Gentleman, Annie again.

Seeing a live show is an organic experience and really cannot be replicated.
Agree!! I don't know which came first, movie or show, but I did not get an appreciation for Hairspray until I saw the show! I LOVED Rock of Ages & I think they are making it into a movie - not interested at all in a movie version.

Wicked is a MUST SEE!

And I fell in love with The Lion King all over again when I saw the show, another must see!

This is one of my favourites; both the movie... and the one production I've seen. It wasn't like, a high-end, Twentieth Century Fox production, but twas very good. The movie is one of my favourite things to watch when I'm lacking clothing/makeup/fashion inspo .

I'm not really a big fan of musicals, but I've been to a few and my favorite music wise was definitely Rock of Ages. It's all 80s music so it's fun to sing along and it's more a concert than anything else! It was a blast and they did fantastic covers of the songs. I loved it!

I can't stand musicals, and thankfully my fiance can't either.

However, we did go to see Wicked when it first came to Chicago, and we both loved it. That one is an exception!
