DH and I are spending our anniversary in Montreal this year. Any sight-seeing, restaurant, and (of course) shopping recommendations? Thanks in advance!

There are so many places to eat. It really depends on your tastes. My favorites are Pied du Cochon (pricey but casual, home foods), L'Express ( mid priced French cuisine, great atmosphere), and VIP (Chinese). Hope you enjoy your trip!!

Cassis - Mtl is a great place. I don't know where you are from but Old Montreal is lovely to walk around. lots of nice shops and good restaurants.

The Plateau is also nice. Lots of places to see, eat and shop. Get off at Mont Royal metro and walk around. I don't need to even give directions. :)

Shopping is great downtown of course. Eaton Centre, Ogivilies, Holt Renfrew, St Catherine. Lots of price points and well known brands. You can also shop near Mont Royal and St Denis. St Denis has well known brands and also small boutique shops. Another nice place is along Sherbrooke. lots of higher end boutiques and it's a more English speaking area.

My favorite way to get around is walking and taking public transportation. Parking can be difficult/ expensive. There are also Bixi bikes everywhere if you feel adventurous. :)

If I think of anything else, I'll post again. Have a great trip!!

^^ Yep! Try Poutine at a classic Montreal fast food institution like La Belle Province, or for more variation go to La Banquise on Rachel street.

Montreal is definitely foodie heaven, if you love to eat. I second Pied de Cochon and L'Express (Au P'tit Extra is actually my fave French bistro, it's a little out of the traditional restaurant route, but so lovely!) Look into other spots in the Old Port as well like L'Apartement, Le Local, Grange, Garde Manger (BEST restaurant in Montreal in my opinion, hard to get a reservation!), Holder's and for the best brunch go to Le Carter in the Old Port.

Besides food, shopping and the sights are great here as well. Go to the downtown area for shopping and museums if you like that, definitely walk around the Old Port, and go visit Mount Royal for the beautiful views on the park, the city, and the gorgeous homes that line the Mount Royal area.

Luxury department store shopping is mostly at Ogilvy's and Holt Renfrew, they are on the same street (de la Montagne) 2 street corners from each other! I also second shopping in the Plateau region for cuter versions of boutiques and a "hipster" feel!

So many other things, but let us know what you want to see/do! Montreal is a romantic city IMO so it's a great pick for an anniversary

OMG, we went last summer and had a great time! Try to get a reservation at Chuck Hughes restaurant - the name escapes me. It's amazing! Their specialty is Lobster Poutine. Schwartz Deli is a must see for a montreal smoked meat sandwich. Just get take out and eat at the stand up tables if you don't want to wait for a seat. Then get in a cab and ask them to take you to Mont Royal and take the hike up the mountain for a spectacular view.

Thank you. I am traveling with DD and I was hoping to find something fun for her to do.
She wants to shop for her birthday but I am also looking for something adventurous.

Thank you. I am excited and overwhelmed. I hope we have fun. We almost decided not to go last night.

Thank you. Sorry I am so late in responding, I did not get any notification that someone actually answered me.. Lol

I am taking DD14, so I am trying to find some fun things for her to do in addition to sight seeing and shopping.

If you're willing to go cheap and ethnic, Maison Kam Fung. It's the best dim sum I've had in North America.

It's an adventure, but the food is soooooo good.

Everytime I go to MTL, we always go to maison kam fung... heck, we go there so often, my grandparents know the owner! Their food are ok, but the plates are always huge, so perfect for family gathering.

DH and I had a wonderful time in Montreal! We stayed on Sherbrooke, which was extremely convenient to shopping and restaurants! Old Montreal was charming, and we loved exploring the Plateau and the food markets...but the highlight was definitely Garde Manger! The food was absolutely amazing! Thank you for the helpful information, ladies!
