DBF and I had a few different trips planned for this summer. Shortly after coming back from one of those trips (Puerto Rico) I took a nasty fall down a creek bank while taking the dogs for a swim. After four days in the hospital, surgery and a box of screws, most of our summer plans got squashed.
I am finally able to walk again, but still wearing the awful black boot. But we still want to go away for at least a couple of days before he is back in class. We are usually beach goers, but I don't even want to think about being outside in the hot sand with this awful boot.
Vegas still sounds like a possibility to me, but I am wondering if there would be too much walking involved? BF wants to do the free fall jump and I want to see Phantom before it closes. Other than that, and maybe a few hours playing around the casino, I am happy with just spending a lot of time in the hotel relaxing.
Does anyone have any recommendations on where we could go (without breaking the bank!)? Or would Vegas still be an option? I can walk, and I don't have a lot of pain. It is usually just my other foot getting tired from overcompensating the boot.
My only other problem is the 'one shoe' issue. I have a good pair of Nike Shocks that elevate the uninjured foot to the approximate height as the boot, and though I can wear other shoes, they make walking much more difficult. But I can't even imagine sporting an athletic shoe down the strip in Vegas.
Vegas is all about walking. Just getting into a casino can be a long walk.
I'm sorry to hear about the fall. Some relaxing places that I have enjoyed that would not be hot or beach would be Oregon, Vermont or Asheville NC. The grove park inn in Asheville is amazing and the town is small but so much fun. It stays way cooler in the mountains.
I wore a cast boot for a few months and I went everywhere. I wore MBT in the other foot and I had no problem re: leveling with the height of the boot, nor over-working my good foot. please have a try and good luck!
kitty-kitty, I am in love with my Nike Shocks which just so happen to be the perfect height. Walking with that is just right. I was just thinking I would like a prettier shoe for going out. I can walk with any other shoe, it just causes me to limp a little bit. I'm very self conscious about this, but as a friend of mine told me, "you are limping because you broke your leg and you had surgery. stop worrying about it". Hmm...Oh well. I think we are going to go for a few days and see how it goes. We can always stay in the room if I get too tired! lol
