Las Vegas, New Orleans or Cancun are popular place to celebrate a big bday. Right now Southwest is having a airfare sale for Las Vegas. I am not sure how long the sale is I wouldnt be surprised it is only for a day or two.

Vegas I went there for my 30th and it was a blast. Unless you already frequently travel there I'd think it would be a great choice. There is so much to do shopping, spas, pools, clubs/bars, & gambling. If you already go there often or already have had your fill of vegas what type of vacation do you want to take a relaxing beach, outdoor adventure, exploring a large downtown city?

I would like to go to Vegas, but my friend has been there before. I was thinking maybe beach, drinks, sun. Somewhere just to have a good time.

I'd recommend South Beach, Miami then.

Playa Del Carmen, Mexico is a great beach town with some fun beach bars. You can fly into Cancun and then it is a 40 min taxi/shuttle ride to Playa Del Carmen. Cheaptickets, Orbitz, Expedia and Travelocity has some great deals for the area. Also you could buy a airline ticket and book a small boutique hotel directly. Playa Info Forum has a lot of info about the area.

Playa Maya, Luna Blue, Aventura Mexicana, The Elements and Playa Palms are all great choices. The cost of food and drinks there are very resonable. You can get a beer for $2-3 and margarita for $3-5.

If you decide to go to Playa definitely check out map chick maps, it's like this custom map of the area with all the hotels, bars, etc on it. It's really sweet :)

Also, there's an awesome boutique hotel right in downtown playa called hotel basico that won a whole bunch of design awards, you have to check out the pictures, it's so cool:

They used a ton of recycled materials to make the hotel. :)

We loved 100% Natural for breakfast, right around hotel basico, and Ah Cacao, kind of like a mexican starbucks with loads of yummy chocolate!

Do you want the beach? I'd suggest Aruba since it is outside of the hurricane belt and it is one of my favorite islands. I I agree that Vegas would be a blast. Will you be meeting your friend in NY? You can probably get a great flight to Dublin.

I LOVE Map Chic. I have been using her maps for many years. I have stayed at Hotel Basico and really enjoyed it. Sometimes the noise can get loud on a Fri or Sat night though.

Ah Cacao has the BEST brownies I have every had. I usually buy a dozen on my last day to bring home.

Carboncitos has some of the best food in Playa Del Carmen. They have $3 happy hour margaritas. They are located on 4th st. Worth a visit.
