Hi everyone!! My fiance and I are thisclose to booking our honeymoon in Riviera Maya. Has anyone had any experience with the Excellence Playa Mujeres? This is where we are thinking of staying. Also, any suggestions for activities to do there? I think right now we are thinking of doing Xplor and Chichen Itza. We're only staying there for 7 days so we don't want to book too many activities because we want to sit and relax for the majority of the vacation. Thanks in advance for any advice!

We went to Excellence Playa Mujeres two years ago. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday, it is great, the service was excellent and I loved the cocktails. But please also leave the resort, it is such a beuatiful region: citizen Itza is astonishing and so is Tulum. You can go swimming in a denote with little fish and bats.
The resort was fun, but we only stayed 3 days, that was enough for us, we like a lot of culture in our holidays, so we rented a car and drove to Campeche visiting all the sites in between.

Thank you! I"ll keep that in mind...I've been to Mexico twice but my fiance hasn't. I've been to Chichen Itza and I think he'd really like that trip. Is Tulum the same thing?

It is not the same thing, but both are worth visiting. Tulum is not as spectacular but has a beautiful setting, right next to the ocean.

For our honeymoon, we actually went to the Beloved Hotel, formally known as La Amada in Playa Mujeres. Talk about a relaxing time! You feel like a million bucks when you are there. Staff is amazing. The spa was amazing. They have hot tubs in the room, balconies, great food, it was the best time of my life. But we are the quiet, relaxing type of couple, not adventurous at all, so we stayed at the hotel the entire five days we were there.

We honeymooned at EPM in 2009 and are heading back there in 2 weeks!
Absolutely LOVE it. The resort is wonderful, you'll love it.

EPM is a great resort to visit. But be aware sometimes the beach can get a little bit of seaweed when the tide turns. The service is great and the food is good.

Another option I would recommend is Secrets Maroma. The service is just as good as EPM but the beach is MUCH better. It has one of the nicest beach in the Riviera Maya area. It is a great resort for a honeymoon. I love the secret room service boxes. You can order room service and still sit around in your robe. They have a special box in the wall where they will deliver the food.

Tulum is much closer then Chichen Izta. Tulum is about a 30 min drive Chichen is about 3 hrs. Tulum is a really pretty setting looking over the ocean. Xplor is TONS of fun. You can easily spend a whole day there. Also another fun place is Xelha. The snorkeling is really nice there.
