Please help! Any restaurants you'd recommend near the central tourist area, like the National Mall or National Gallery?

Has anyone heard things about:

701 Restaraunt and Bar
Jaleo Tapas
Zola
Oya Lounge and Restaurant

Thank you for any other recommendations, too!!!

Zatinya...very good food.. great drinks... expensive
Zola.. soso food... good drinks... expensive
McCormick & Schmidts... soso good... ok drinks... moderately priced
Oceanaire....excellent food (crabcakes are the bomb.com)... good drinks...expensive but well worth the money
Jaleo is just ok imo..

There are a couple of other restaurants but those are my main suggestions...what type of food/atmosphere are you looking for?

Oh, I love Georgia Browns in DC. Everytime I'm there I have to stop in for a muddy water martini.

yes I forget about Old Ebbitt Grill alot... their food is really good. I love the lunch menu. You can get a really good pasta dish for like 5 bucks!

Oh Sea Catch in Georgetown... pricey but the food is good. I went last week and had Herb Crusted Halibut with a Vanilla Bean sauce.. sounds weird but it was GOOD!

It's kind of like that movie, You've Got Mail. Why go to the chain bookstore when you can go to a privately owned book store? Just a thought...

I recommend:
Lauriol Plaza - Spanish (Mexican, Peruvian) VERY busy! Great Atmosphere!
http://www.lauriolplaza.com/

Take the Metro to Courthouse. Spend an afternoon in the area...great shopping includes Current Boutique (Consignment), ShoeFly (Shoes & Accessories) and 3 Sisters (lingerie). There is plenty more like Chicos, Origins, Ann Taylor and Crate and Barrel in the area too... After you work up an appetite walk back towards the metro and stop for Thai!!!

Sawatdee - Thai - Arlington, VA on the Orange Line Metro - Courthouse

And if you find yourself in Old Town, Alexandria, there are some wonderful shops to stop in as well. Then stop in at Cafe Salsa for some really wonderful food!

If you like seafood, Kinkead's is excellent! I went for dinner in December, and the food was great. Nice, intimate atmosphere, too.

Jaleo and Zatinya are both excellent...in the same area, I've heard that Proof is really great as well, and Cafe Atlantico (Penn Quarter).

I'm going to add Central (Metro Center area). It recently won the James Beard award (Oscar-equivalent) for the best new restaurant in the US. It's a Michel Richard restaurant that's more bistro-styled and super delicious (and more affordable than his other restaurant in DC called Citronelle).

In Georgetown, I really like Hook on M Street -- sustainable seafood -- and Pizzeria Paradiso, also on M Street.

If you're going to be around for brunch, I really recommend Tabard Inn in the Dupont Circle area. They make their own donuts and their brunch is just amazing. It's a really cozy restaurant.
