Just came back from Paris 2 weeks ago. THis is my second time. The first time was in December 3 years ago. You will LOVE paris in december. Christmas decorations are everywhere and the Champ Elysees' trees are lit at night. When I went in December, I basically layered things. Wore a wool coat, jeans, comfy shoes and a cotton sweater with a scarf. I dont remember it being too cold since I went early December, but I carried a scarf just in case it got windy. Bring an umbrella since weather is unpredictable.
I got ALL my pastries and macarons from laduree. Its pretty expensive and the lines are long especially at the Champs Elysees location. I spent like over 100 Euros on pastries (bringing some back to the U.S.) of course. My favorite was the pistachio St Honore Fauborg ( I think). Paris metro stations are very easy to learn and they're all near main attractions. Try to go to the Eiffel Tower at night (it blinks/ has flashing lights at 10:15 PM i think). My favorite place was actually Versailles (20 mins away by train). It's beautiful. The bad thing about December is that all the gardens won't be in bloom. Definitely stroll around St. Germain de Pres. Lots of high-end stores. Have lotsa fun! |

Eyewitness travel guidebook for Paris. The best!
Food Lover's Guide to Paris by Wells. Another best! Plus it has recipes from famous places. Search tPF for Paris tips. Lots of us have posted. Macaroons at Fauchon's. It can be cold in December - perhaps snow, perhaps not. Take silk layers, like silk turtlenecks and leggings for under pants. Bring two pairs of walking shoes in case one pair will probably get wet. Fun fiction mystery series before you go: The Aimee le Duc series by Cara Black. Aimee is a young and fashionable young lady who owns a detective agency. |

To answer some of your questions:
1,2 I don't know, sorry. 3. Angelina in rue Rivoli. They are great!! I wish they sold online. 4. I think the best views are from the Arc de Triomphe. Don't miss place Vendome, Louvre, and Orsay. 5. The best shops in the area of Cambon, Vendome, Saint Honoré Paix. Great shopping malls are Galeries Lafayette and Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche. |

I love the macarons from Laduree. I have also tried Pierre Hermes but preferred Laduree's flavors and texture.
Avenue des Champs-Élysées is great to stroll down for shopping and you can stop by the Louis Vuitton flagship store! I agree with the recommendation to see Versailles - it's a beautiful and impressive palace. Giverny is another great day trip. If you are a Monet fan, you can see his house and the famous garden that inspired his paintings. |

Agree with all the other posters. Versailles is a great day trip. You can save some money & time and ask for the passport which includes your train ticket and admission.
We also took a day trip to Reims - saw their beautiful Notre Dame & toured a champagne house. Very easy to get to buy train and the city is walkable. The cathedral was beautiful at night and hardly anyone was inside with us. An amazing experience. The majority of the kings & queens of France were crowned there! |

Laduree and Pierre Herme for macaroons. Both have locations in the 8th/1st (near the shopping districts) and 6th.
Best shopping (in my opinion), rue St. Honore in the 8th/1st and Av Montaigne in the 8th. Around St Germain in the 6th is also quite nice. But these areas are expensive. |

Bring comfortable ballet flats or perhaps black low top converse or black pumas for walking shoes. Lots of streets have cobblestones, and I noticed most women in flats. You make want to bring low/flat boots.
Rick Steve's has a great way to shop for a picnic by the Eiffel Tower and then you can eat it in the garden of the Rodin museum, very pretty and a very fun thing to do. You shop in the specialty stores, like a cheese store, a bread store, etc. We really loved that. For shopping Paris is very expensive, but you could browse around the fancy shops. I found Gallerys Layfayette (sp?) overwhelming and way to crowded. I did like looking around Le Marais area for speciality and more local shops. |

I was there in 2006 and 2007 and found that the prices on clothes, shoes, etc. were much higher that they would be in the US. A Vuitton bag that cost $800 at Galleries Lafayette was close to 800EU. At the $1.40 exchange rate -- clearly not a bargain. Worth it, perhaps, if its something you can't get at home.
I bought some gourmet items (mustards, salt, chocolate bars...) at La Grande Epicerie De Paris in the lower level of Le Bon Marche. #1 fashion tip - bring a long, lightweight scarf. Everyone, men and women, wears them in Paris. Check youtube if you need tips on how to tie one. |

Best hot chocolate in the world! I have some of the mix left over from the last time I was in Paris. (I always bring some back.) A store near me when I lived in San Francisco sold it for a little while. Apparently shipment dates were not dependable so the store gave up in frustration. I almost cried. |

I go to paris 2 to 4 times a year. December is cold, make sure you have a coat/jacket and wear light clothes underneath so you aren't carrying 2 sweaters on your hand while shopping. (IF shopping)
there is a little thrift/discount store TWO BLOCKS away from lafayette and Printemps (the two HUGE shopping department stores) It doesn't have much and I never shopped there but I did walk by numerous times. They seem to have a lot of highend discount stuff. Small but with lots of goodies it's on RUE GODOT de MAUROY. Check where the hotel St. Petersbourg is and it's right "behind" it on the next block. |

i was in Paris last year for 3 days during my honeymoon to central europe. Managed to comb their disneyland, Louvre, Champs Elysees, Arc De Triomphe, Notre Dame Cathedral, Eiffel Tower, Moulin Rouge, river seine cruise, Gallerie Layfette etc within the short period of time given.
Im sure u will have as much fun as i did! And dont forget the purchase of the monograms when ur there! Its definitely cheaper, even if its just a little bit! Enjoy yourself! |
