If you had one week to visit Europe, where would you go and why?

There's so much to do and see it's overwhelming but all I've got is a week. So I'm up for suggestions. I'd be going near the end of August.

I love art museums. So if I had only 1 week, I would go to Paris.

This is a hard one but I would definitely stick to bigger cities, especially if this is your first time and try to limit the amount of time spent traveling between cities if you only have one week. London and Paris are always great options and it is very easy to get between the two cities. if you wanted to stick to just one country, you could do Spain - Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao - or Italy - Rome, Florence and Venice.

I've narrowed it down to a week in Rome or a week in Paris. Which city do you guys think would be easier to navigate for a first timer?

Italy. I would hit up Venice, Florence and then Rome. All are within 2 to 2.5 hours of drive time from each other. So I would do 2 days in Venice, 3 days in Florence (and surrounding area) and 2 days in Rome. Perfecto!

PS - I see that you've narrowed it down to Rome or Paris. Will you have a car? If you will have access to a car I would say Rome because there are so many day trips that you can do (Pompeii, Sienna, etc). However, if you don't have a car I would say Paris because the transit system is amazing in Paris and you can take a train to Luxemburg, Versaille, even London (which I believe is 2 hours away on the Eurostar?).

I would do 3 days in Rome, 2 days in Venice, and 2 days in Paris. Those are the three places I most want to go to in Europe so if I only had a week to do it that is how I would split it.

I'll suggest to visit Paris and no other cities within Europe - a week isn't enough to visit more than 2 places within Europe.
Just my opinion... I live in Germany and I often travel around within Europe.
I always stay at one place for at least a week because there are so many things to discover! (a lot more than the regular sight-seeing)

It would be good to prepare a lot for your trip. I suggest to read some books about France, the cuisine and at least a few French words would be nice.

Do have in mind that Europe isn't one country but many different countries with so many differnt people, customs and languages etc.
(We like the idea of the European Union and the same currency but we'd also like to remain how and who we are.)

I wish you a nice trip!

One week in just Rome or Paris is to much, so I agree with the others. Rome, florence and venice

Yes, you read the title right. My grand daughter is studying in Spain for 6 weeks, so my oldest daughter (her mother) decided it was a good reason for a road trip. Of course we want to see and do everything we can in the short period of time we have.

We are landing in Rome. Going to Florence, Venice. Touring the Vatican and have a walking tour of Rome. Serenaded Gondola ride scheduled in Venice. Take an overnight train to Paris. The travel agent said we needed to sleep and ride and that was the most cost effective way to go. We are having lunch at the Eiffel tower. Going to the Louvre and some other museums, and a show at the Moulin Rouge. Taking another overnight train to Madrid. We will then go to Segovia to see where my grand daughter is living and going to school. Also have a show scheduled to see the Flamenco dancers. I remember when I was there in '74 how colorful and exciting the show was. Whew! I get excited and tired just thinking about it. We're leaving mid-July.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

I would go to Spain and Portugal or Greece cause those are the places I have not been.... I would suggest though Italy ( although it took us 10 days- Rome, Venice, Milan, Florence and Pisa) or... London and Paris.

It depends on what you like

If you are an art lover, Italy would be the right choice (Vatican Museum, Uffizi and Accademia in Florence for Michaelangelo, da Vinci and Boticelli) and Milan (*cant remember the name of the museum for Leo's Last Supper)

Though Paris is also great for Louvre and Musee d'Orsay...

Honestly, I love France for everything..the beautiful architectures, museums, sceneries and shoppings
