Some more suggestions. If you go to Soho, Broadway is always super crowded and the chain stores are clustered around Broadway. East and West of Broadway is where more cute boutiques are located. There is a block of boutiques on Mulberry, which is east of Broadway, around the cross streets Spring and Prince. There are also boutiques out in the East Village on 9th st around 1 ave and 2 ave.

I would also keep an eye out for the Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream Truck in Soho. Grom (gelato) and Cones (ice cream).

The Chelsea Market is an indoor food market with bakeries and a cute restaurant. It also is where the Ronnybrook Milk Bar and makes the most delicious milkshakes ever.

A really cute place in the East Village is Chikalicious an all dessert restaurant. It is small and has a delicious three course dessert menu for $12. Don't worry, everything is portioned small so you won't feel too full.

I am not into noisy club scenes. I like loungey places instead. My BF and I always go to Pegu Club (Soho) and Little Branch (West Village) for speakeasy type establishments with great cocktails. At these places cocktails are around $12 so not a rip off either like clubs.

And a nice restaurant to go to if you are a Top Chef fan is Perilla in the West Village, run by Harold the second 1 winner. You won't see him out in the restaurant, but the food is good.

Even though New Yorkers leave on the weekend, I have noticed a huge influx of tourists instead. So expect all the touristy areas to be even more crowded.

If you can be more specific with your tastes in clothes, shopping, restaurants, activities, I can offer better suggestions. Everything in my above post is stuff I like to do and places I shop.

As far as what to wear, it gets HOT in the city. For shoes, ballet flats, flat sandels, wedges for day and heels for evening. Most girls wear a lot of dresses in the summer, just cute cotton dresses for day, slightly nicer for evening. Shorts are also fine. While very few places still require formal wear for evening, New York is still a bit dressier than the rest of the country. Unfortunately, I've noticed that no one dresses up very much and I am younger than most at 23. So don't think you need cocktail attire unless you are going to an event.

I'm finding that crossbody bags are coming back into style. So a nice lightweight crossbody bag is great if you are walking around all day. Bring a clutch for evening. While I see girls out in the evening with large bags, I just don't think it is appropriate, and with tables so small in New York restaurants, there is no place to put those bags.

This is awesome, guys!! I live in Orlando so the outlets that you guys mentioned here, we have, too. I may want to check out Barney's, Saks and NM b/c I found a new love for Christian Loubotoin shoes and the variety down here is limited. My main concern is hotels b/c they could be pricey even though I get the discount with Marriott. Is the Marquis too expensive or is it worth it. Right now, my night is $179.00 with the discount. What do you think?

So far this is what I know from this thread:

Use the subway, avoid cabs.
Play tickets may be cheaper for same day
Hot and humid, wear comfy clothes, sunscreen and comfy shoes.
For a newbie, it is preferably to go to a day game? b/c ride in Subway could be an hour or so and then back, right?
Broadway has the biggest crowds

I also wanted to visit a couple of those fabu consignment shops, where are cool ones. What is Century 21 and where is it? I think I have heard about that place.

For the Marriott Grand Marquois in Time Square you are going ot be paying $179??? I would call that a sweet deal. It can run $400 a night++.

http://www.c21stores.com/#/store-locations/?store=manhattan It's basically at Ground Zero- (downtown near Battery Park).

IMO, even if you went to a night baseball game there would be enough people on the subway, that it would be okay.
See above :)

You don't always need to avoid cabs. During weekdays, the subway is definitely perferable because of traffic. But for evenings out and on weekends I prefer cabs. On weekends some of the train lines are very unpredictable and you can be waiting for up to half an hour on the local track.

Century 21 is like a TJ Maxx but better. Not my scene, but some people find great scores. The wardrobe forum will probably have better suggestions for consignment shops in New York.

And if you are visting the nice department stores and CL store, I would go for stylish but still comfy. Even in this heat, everyone still looks very put together.

Yes, I work for Marriott so I will be making reservations this week for that sweet deal
Why Century 21 not your scene? What is comfy but stylish? Summer dresses, what shoes? What accesories?

Thank you again! I appreciate your patience.

Hi, I hope you aren't in New York yet, I don't check here too often. I don't like Century 21 because I don't like digging for clothes, I just don't have the patience. Yes summer dresses in cotton/linen/silk are great, shorts are also in this summer (not denim). For shoes flat leather sandels are probably good. Or ballet flats, but most people are in sandels now for summer. Accessories can be everything you want. These are just rough guidelines. The great thing about New York is very dresses differently.

I agree with lilac on Century 21. Last time I visited it was a big mess of a store. I really didn't find any so-called "gems" within the entire store. Everything seemed out of date. Maybe I'm too impatient to really search for the hidden treasures in the store, I don't know....

Sorry to hijack, but I'll be in New York this weekend, and had planned on going to the Pegu Club for cocktails after dinner.

Can you tell me if my husband and I will be allowed in with dark jeans, more specifically if he'll be turned away for wearing black suede and leather Royal Elastic sneakers? Do they have a dress code? They website doesn't mention one.

I think he should be okay. I think my BF usually wears driving mocassins there, but they are less strict than nightclubs. You should be able to pass with sneakers, but I'm not sure. Dark jeans are okay! I think if you husband puts on a dress shirt too, he'll fit right in. Since they don't have a formal dress code, just look presentable and you should be okay.

^^ Thanks for the info! He was planning on wearing a dress shirt, so cross fingers. I'll be wearing heels and a nice blouse, so I think we'll scrub up nicely. :)

^^Sounds good, actually thinking of it, BF may have gone once in flip flops too. Can't remember now, it's actually been a little while since we've gone.

You guys will love it, they have amazing cocktails.
