Hey,
Sorry if there is already a thread to answer this but I did a search and got nothing. I'm going to NY and Boston at the beginning of November, and have no idea how cold it will be!!! What sort of clothes do I need to take? Will jeans and a jacket suffice or do I need a proper coat? How about shoes? Will I be too cold in ballet flats or should I bring my Uggs? Any help would be much appreciated :) Thanks. |

It is usually cold in Boston in November, sometimes it will be snowing. But Boston weather is so unpredictable, you should check the weather forecasts. Laying is always a good idea. Most likely you will need a proper coat.

I like to refer to the BBC Weather Centre's average weather charts to help plan trips.
Boston: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/c...ml?tt=TT001080 NYC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/c...ml?tt=TT001090 Prior to your travels, check the weather forecasts on the BBC website or www.weather.com Definitely bring a warm coat, gloves and a hat. I'd recommend Uggs or shoes/boots you can wear with socks vs. ballet flats. Have fun! |

Yes, your feet will be cold in flats. If you own the classic Uggs (meaning, the sole has NO TRACTION whatsoever), you're sort of risking it, but I do it anyways. Even though NYC & Boston are major cities where the snow is cleaned off the sidewalks constantly, you have to watch where you're going. I've even slipped once in my classic Uggs on a non-snowy day. Typically, I still wear them, but it gets annoying if your intention isn't to always look out for where you're stepping, y'know? If your Uggs have traction, then you should be fine. I wear leather boots or rainboots when it's snowing & I'm okay.
You can layer if you have a nice thick jacket (if you don't own a down jacket, I mean). I layered with a hoodie and a non-down jacket from Hollister throughout the end of the year before I finally caved in & bought a down jacket... so it IS possible to survive without a down jacket! ![]() But exactly how much walking do you plan on doing? Will you be driving at all or taking the cabs frequently? Do you plan on walking a lot & using public transportation? |

In the first week of November in NY you MIGHT be able to get away with flats but you're going to need a heavy winter coat (at LEAST a north face denali type thing) and you should definitly bring boots, gloves, a scarf, etc. It is COLD in November, especially when you're outside walking around. And it snows too so be prepared for that. Definitly bring your heavy winter coat and all your winter essentials. And I know that Boston will probably be even colder than NY. Good luck

a down jacket at least covers your knees...i assume you'll stay outdoor for longer than usual.

I agree with what everyone's said. LAYER LAYER LAYER! Like Sonya mentioned, Boston weather is very unpredictable - we refer to it as bipolar, hahaha. Sometimes you'll leave in the morning with a down jacket on, it's cold and breezy... then in the afternoon, it becomes completely sunny and warms up about 10 degrees and you have to actually take your jacket off.

FYI - New England had snow showers today, and it was 41 degrees when I left to go work - it is mid-October!

Will be going to NYC end of Nov for Thanksgiving parade :)
I am assuming it is unlikely to snow but it might be windy and cold for us coming from California weather. Is it still okay to wear flats? I can never walk comfortably in my boots. We will be sightseeing and taking public transit a lot. Thank You. |

I'd bring gloves if you plan on shopping though... your hands will feel the cold when they're forced to carry stuff in them!! Scarves too! |

But, it's definitely been a lot warmer than usual. We had our first frost on Wednesday! |
