Default New Orleans for Thanksgiving...
DH and I have decided to take a quick trip to NO for Thanksgiving. We first went off a couple of years ago. His mother died in January 2007 and we always spent Thanksgiving with her. Then DH had a stroke in Sept 2007 so we went off first time Thanksgiving 2007. Went to ATL and had dinner with his aunt and then drove to Asheville and toured the Biltmore in all its Christmas regalia and visited friends up there. Last year we didnt go anywhere, so since our 30th anniversary is in December, we decided this would be nice.
Omni Royal Orleans with Royal Street view.....planning on alot of walking and going to visit historical/architectural gems....and of course the antique shoppes. Last time I went was 1999....
Suggestions?

I love New Orleans and you're in a great location!

I'd highly recommend a tour....your hotel can book it. They'll take you everywhere, including a cemetery and through areas hit my Katrina (very moving....and you get to see Brad Pitt's new houses).

I love going on the Haunted History tours. They do a ghost tour and vampire tour nightly in the French Quarter.

Hope you have a great trip!

Crawfish season is over, but you should have some oysters. Not sure if it mentioned in the threads below, but check out Blaine Kerns Mardi Gras World. You'll get to see all the floats.
Here are some threads with great suggestions.

If you are looking for some traditional New Orleans food I would suggest going to Arnaud's Jazz Bistro. That way you get the delicious food along with some great local music.

Absolutely must get a beignet at Cafe du Monde!! It's open 24/7 so its particularly great after a long night out!

Also worth it to take the streetcar down to Audubon Park in the Garden District. The park is gorgeous and you will get to see all the gorgeous mansions that line St. Charles Avenue.

I went to school in New Orleans for 4 years, I miss it, such a great city!!
For burgers I would recommend Clover Grill over Port of Call. Clover Grill is located right in the middle of the French Quarter and the decor is nicer. The burger is great too! Also open 24/7!

If you want great oysters for not too much money head over to Casamento's on Magazine Street. Magazine Street also has many great shops and antique stores.

I agree with Casamento's! Yummy! Just don't go looking for Audubon Park in the Garden District... it's almost 5 miles away.
