Can the resort send you any brochures about available activities? They will probably be within the resort property or maybe a guided trip. You don't want to wander on your own in Jamaica. High crime.

^^I agree with Pat. If you're staying at a resort you should be fine.

I went to Jamaica via a cruise and I was there for about 8 hours. Their guards were very intimidating to me. The taxi cab driver's literally argue with each other on who is going to get the fare. I was very unsettled when that was going on.

All of that being said, it was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen (as far as the beach and water).

I know many people that have gone to Jamaica and they had a great time. It's usually the people that went to a resort, and had PLANNED activities, unlike me and DH. When I went, we did not take planned excursions. That was a stupid thing to do. I think things will go fine for you as long as you arrange everything in advance.

My husband and I literally got off the ship and walked around. I don't know what we were thinking. It was our first time on a cruise, but trust me we're much smarter about these things now.

You should go and have a great time, but definintely do your homework first.

If you're staying at Sandals you'll have a blast! We just went to Sandals Regency St Lucia and loved it. If you go to the Sandals website you can get an E brochure with alot of info. Make sure to look at the giant Sandals book in your room, it will tell you everything about the resorts, pools, where to eat for what meals, and tour times. Have fun!

I've been to Jamaica many times and I love the place. I've never stayed in an all inclusive resort though because I love eating at the local restaurants and things like that. My favorite place in Negril and I didn't find it to be full of crime there (although I havent been in 8 years, maybe it's different now). The local people were mostly really warm and friendly, I would love to go back soon.

I'm going to Negril in August, and I can't wait. I hope you and your hubby have a wonderful time. My BF is Caribbean and he can't wait to sample the local fare in Jamaica!

I heard Dunn's River Falls is gorgeous.

We went to Jamaica and stayed at Sandals Royal Carribean (I think they changed the name now). Anyway, we had a blast! Everything was included even the alcoholic drinks. I wouldn't recommend venturing out at night. We heard lots of horror stories. That's what's good about staying at all inclusive resorts, every night, there are "shows/activities" as well as in the day time.

We went to Ocho Rios to tour Dunn's River Falls and we ate lunch at Sandal's Dunn's River. Of course, the lunch was free. Their advertisement is "Stay at one, Play in all" or something like that.

I loved Jamaica! There is a very high crime rate but if you stick to the resort and any guided/organized day trips you'll be fine. Have Fun!
