Red face Hotel suggestions - whistler canada?
Well, I am in charge of finding accommodations for a family trip to Whistler in January 2010. Here is the criteria:

*As close to the ski slopes as possible (with great views of the slopes as well).

*Luxury accommodations

*Pet-friendly

Any suggestions?

Hmm.. usually I stay in condos. I was just up there mid-October and we stayed at Evolution. This is located in Creekside, which is farther from the Village.

Do you want hotels or condos?

luxury

pet friendly

I like Fairmont, Four Seasons and the Westin from the links above.

Hope that helps!

ohh you're coming up to canada, my hood! i'd choose the four seasons! its beautiful. i used to stay there before my parents bought places up there! super gorgeous! my second suggestion would be to rent someone's cabin. there are some amazing ones up there.

I recommend the Fairmont or renting a private home. There are beautiful homes that are fully equipped there.

Have fun!

@flashy.stems Do you by any chance live in Vancouver as well?

Both the Fairmont and Four Seasons are fabulous hotels. But like the others mentioned, you might find some really great cabins to rent as well-it might be more spacious/economical if you're going as a family.

Mom is in a wheelchair and dad likes maid service, so we think that a hotel is the way we want to go. My parents were there several years ago and my mom wants to go back to some hotel that she says is at the base of the ski slopes. That is why I was wondering if anyone knows which of the hotels is located at the bottom of the ski slopes?

miu2, the Carleton Lodge is located right at the base of both Whistler and Black comb Mountains. Hope this helps and enjoy your trip!

I know the area well and recommend the Chateau Whistler. Creekside is miles down the highway from Blackcomb Village and becomes a traffic jam apres ski.

I would suggest you stay in Whistler Village being that your Mother is in a wheel chair, traveling on foot from the Upper Village(where the Four Seasons/Fairmont are located) is about a 10-15 minute walk, which really isn't much with the scenery around that area. But there are some rather commanding stairs you will encounter on the transfer over to Whistler Village(which is where most of the shops/restaurants are)

The Westin is a great hotel, and is literally right at the base of the Whistler Gondola, the Ski School building/GLC is right next door to the 3rd floor entrance. The Hotel is very very nice, I believe it is pet friendly. Very accessible for someone in a wheel chair and very helpful with everything from transportation to lift passes. Take for instance my last visit to Whistler, I had hurt my knee on the trip(Tore my ACL on Mt. Baker the week before) and the Hotel offered their shuttle to drive me specifically to the local aid station. There was also a nice Gift basket of goodies in the room when I arrived also.

The Adara Boutique Hotel is another I would suggest, it is not far from the lifts situated just across from the Telus Convention Centre, and about a 5 minute walk to the lifts/base of the mountain. It is a rather small hotel, very friendly. Doesn't offer a spa or as many features as the Westin but has lots of good points. Be sure to ask for a room with Mountain View as the Valley View rooms face the entrance to a rather large Bar. I have personally only stayed in the One Bedroom suites here, but know they offer a 2 bedroom. Very modern hotel, situate in a bit of a back area off to the side of the Village though, so not much glam factor. Also from memory the showers we're very large, about 5 feet or so, which might be good for your mother.

The Pan Pacific is also right at the base of Whistler Mountain directly opposite the Blackcomb Gondola, it isn't as nice as the Westin, but the 2 Bedroom suites are very well appointed with the best view of the slopes in Whistler Village in my opinion.

If the cause for the trip is anything to do with the Sledding Track you should stay in the Upper Village, if it is more to see Ski Jumping, stay in Creekside, if its to Shop/Ski and live it up, Whistler Village or Village North are the best locations in my mind.

TL;DR Want ever amenity thinkable and one of the top 3 resorts at the mountain? Westin. Want Modern rooms with good views but don't mind a lacking in amenity's, Adara(my fav hotel in all of Whistler for what its worth). Great views, Great Location, Pan Pacific.

Sorry for the length, been staying/riding in Whistler since I was around 10, its very dear to my heart.

Because Mom is in a wheelchair, we would like to be in a hotel that is closest to the shops/village as possible. Of course, we also want to be as close to the base of the ski slopes as well. I know that I have a lot of expectations, however we really want to make this as memorable for mom and dad as possible. We are leaning toward a hotel which has 2 - 3 bedroom suites with a kitchen or kitchenette.

We really want the glam factor on this trip as well with plenty of amenities. I really appreciate everyone's help with this. I really need to figure out which hotel by next week so that I can book my reservations for mid-January. I had forgotten that the Winter Olympics will be in February, so I want to secure my reservations asap.

I stayed in a suite at the hilton, it came with a kitchen and you could walk out to the village. It was wonderful. I would probably stay there again but we got it with our points since we stay at a lot of hiltons and hyatts. Free is fun.

If the fairmont is the one that looks like a castle, then I'd rec that for sure. Otherwise, you cannot go wrong with the four seasons.
