Default Going to Vancouver....Things I Must Do?
I am heading to Vancouver next Wednesday for a 4 day conference. We'll be staying at the Bayshore Westin, which is apparently close to a lot of stuff.

Looking for recommendations on things to do that are not super-expensive. We're just a bunch of grad students LOL

Also looking for food recommendations (one night we are doing tapas, and another night is the Old Spaghetti Factory because we all love it LOL)....is Asian food really good in Vancouver?

Hi Twiggers! I haven't been to Vancouver in ages, but I do remember going to get gelato a lot. I can't remember the name of the place I went to, La Casa Gelato but looks good! If you can, I suggest going to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Whistler, or take a ferry to Victoria. Good luck and have fun!

Twiggers,

Go to Yaletown, loads of amazing places to eat. Hit up Canada Place for a beautiful FREE walk. Hit Robson, some great shopping, eating and site seeing, people watching. Gastown is also a must with the steam clock. Harbour Centre for the top of the restaurant view. Cin Cin is TDF yummy food, as is Joe Fortes, both are a little pricey. They have a ton of yummy sushi places on Robson. Stanley Park, Kits beach, Lonsdale Quay (North Shore), Granville Island ( Kind of near where you are staying).

^ Ditto the aquarium.... Stanley park is really beautiful! And for cheap, you can take the ferry across the bay for a little sightseeing.

Banana Leaf is a restaurant.
Great food.

http://bananaleaf-vancouver.com/

There is a patisserie Lebeau that makes the most amazing waffles.
They are featured at Elixir at the Opus Hotel.
It's in Kits (kitsilano). My DH and I would drive three hours each way to get boxes to load in our car.

Area:
Kitsilano

Cuisines:
Desserts/Coffee/Tea, Bakery

Price Range:
$15- (for 2 - 3 course meal, not including drinks & taxes)

Features:
Takeout, Breakfast & Brunch, Lunch

Pastry shop and bakery located at Burrard and Second, a short walk from Kits beach. Lots of bread, sandwiches, belgian waffles and signature pastries. Closed on Sunday and Monday, hours are 7:30am - 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Robson Street
Earl's on Top on Hornby. It's right next door to Salvatore Ferragamo. www.earls.ca great people watching people are goooorgeous there!

Oh Holt Renfrew is great...it may break the budget. Winner's is the equivalent to Marshalls/TJ Maxx.

Contrary to popular belief a lot of convenience stores and some restaurants take the dollar. The best exchange rate was next to Roots. They had the best rate two times in a row when I visited Oct 06 and Mar 07.
