Default Free things to do with my boyfriend?
Are there any free things to do with my boyfriend that don't cost any money? We're trying to spend even a dollar on activities. That's how bad it is. I don't know what to do besides walk at the park, eat, and play games? We eat and go to the movies, but that's because he want to. It costs about $30. We can't do my activities that cost $5 or a bit more. Um help? He thinks I'm too high maintenance.

things my husband and I love to do with each other that doesn't cost a buttload of money:
  • we subscribe to Netflix which is something like $20 a month and you can get 3 movies at a time. we like to sit at home, watch movies, eat popcorn, order a pizza, etc.
  • we sit in the backyard lounge chairs and read magazines and books. on a hot day, we have a huge pitcher of lemonade and some snacks.
  • on cold days/nights, we like to sit in front of the fireplace and read books, listen to music and talk. if you don't have a fireplace, lighting candles and incense is just as good.
  • we run errands together.
  • we'll go visit friends and have a BBQ or just bring something like cupcakes over and talk, listen to music, etc. Good friends are the best entertainment.
  • we also like to BBQ in our backyard and sit outside and eat.
  • we like to play board games and listen to music. Scrabble is a fave and I always kick his butt.
  • we go to museums/special exhibits. The Getty is amazing. All you pay for is parking. You can even picnic there.
  • We like to go to Santa Monica and stroll on the Promenade. There are plenty of places to eat/snack there that don't cost an arm and a leg. Then we go to the beach and sit and people watch.
  • we go to cafes/coffee houses and just sit, sip and read or people watch and talk. sometimes we'll meet up with friends and just go walking around with them.
  • we attempt to play tennis at a local high school or park.
  • we enjoy riding bikes to a local coffee house.
  • hubby really enjoyed going to Malibu Grand Prix where you race mini dragsters. He keeps threatening to take me. Its $15 for 3 races. Easy to save up for. Here is the website: http://www.speedzone.com/losangeles/index.html
  • we like to drive to the mountains or the desert and roam around and explore. there are so many state parks that are inexpensive to gain access and great places to picnic.
so there are a few suggestions to start with anyway. not everything costs a lot of money to do. the investment in time together and getting to know each other one on one is much more valuable than going somewhere expensive.

- Go to the California Science Center [parking is $8]; weekends are best.
- Talk a walk down Olvera Street; they do free walking tours of the historical buildings or you can do a self-guided tour with a brochure.
- You can visit the La Brea Tar Pits. Again, there's either metered parking or a fee to park behind the Page Museum.
- You can always look to sign up to get tickets to a TV show taping.

I love the beach, but not the sun, so late afternoon and evenings are perfect for me. Walk along, people watch. Explore different beaches, Laguna, Santa Monica, Long Beach, they all have such a different feel.

There are already a couple of nearly identical threads in the Relationships & Family subforum. Here are links:

Things to do with my Boyfriend?

What do you and your SO DO for fun?

ummm...I know I'm gonna get slammed for this but in another thread you are talking about getting a Chanel Jumbo Flap for your next bag by the end of this year (which is 2.5 months away). Now call me crazy but why not use that money towards doing things with your BF instead? You might need to weigh whats more important to you if you guys are on such a tight budget, ya know? I'm just not understanding all your posts complaining about not having money or BF not having money yet you are willing to drop 2 grand on a bag? If I am missing some important details here, someone please fill me in. Thanks.

Wow, I haven't seen any of this. But, I totally agree with you. As harsh as it is, this is the kind of thing that tears relationships apart. If you can't even afford to pay $15 for parking at a free museum, and you insist on buying designer things, that's going to cause a rift in your relationship. Think about what's more important - a person or a bag?

Now I understand when lightdays said that her boyfriend said she was too high maintenance. At first I didn't understand it at all, seeing as they had no money to do things. But, it all makes sense now.

OP, I'm glad you're looking for inexpensive things to do with your boyfriend.

Yes, but I'm confused with many of your posts as well in regards to the bags you are buying (and/or wanting your boyfriend to buy for you), not having a job and getting an allowance from your parents.

Disney has a program beginning 2010 that you'll receive a free ticket tone one of thier parks after a day of volunteering.

We're going through something similar with renos, but it's not like you have to spend a whole lot of money for a good time

We do things like watch movies, at home or in the theatre (when it's discount day, at a specific theatre)
Also we'll go out and get a bubble tea and walk around, or go thrifting (if it's your thing)
We go to starbucks on a regular basis but share a venti frap (it's just the perfect size!)

I think my BF enjoys grocery shopping with me, he's not into cooking but he likes looking for a good deal or checking out the meats.

Grilling can be enjoyable for both. I'm a good cook but sometimes I let my BF marinade the meat and he puts together some interesting and yummy concoctions.
Today we made cookies (only using whatever we had around the kitchen) and they were wonderful, he just purchased a professional 600 kitchen aid as a surprise gift for me with his bonus (at a good deal) and we love using it and planning on making pretzels and stuff since it's really fun and easy without slaving away.

Bowling has free girls' nights so we go then.
We also enjoy exploring ethnics stores and supermarkets for interesting new treats.

This is a great thread for any of us - most of the very best things I do with my DH these days are free.

Anything outdoors is great - hiking, backcountry skiing/boarding, hitting the local skatepark during the day/week when kids are in school, mountain biking.

We have much more fun cooking together than we ever have going out. Trying out new recipes has added many things to our favorite regular dishes together.

We used to love comedy clubs, but we're having a great time downloading comedy on Rhapsody - there are hundreds of hours and I'm sure you can get them on other services. It's very old-fart of us, but we get jigsaw puzzles from the thrift store for a quarter and have comedy nights.

The local free paper is an amazing resource - it has a wealth of events, music, festival and other fun things to do for nothing or cheap!

Hope you'll have fun with these and the suggestions above. Your relationship with DH/BF and friends is worth more than any bag or item you'll ever own!

just BE. Don't worry about anything. Enjoy eachother's company... honestly, that's the way it's supposed to be, and it's the easiest way to be.
