I'm planning on going to Florida including Disneyworld in the next year and I'm deciding between going in December maybe the 19-30 or February from the 13-21. I assumed that December would be way busier for Disneyworld, but I just read that the week of Presidents Day (this year it's Feb. 15) is very busy because some schools give students a week off.

My family used to go to Disney World 3-4 times a year when I was growing up and now my dad is retired & living down there... he also loves it so much that he works there PT seasonally for fun (I know, sigh - my Disney crazy family
) so we pop into the parks at peak times and off peak times year round now. The general sense I have about their traffic patterns is.... Around the end of December, you'll have more then average traffic because of people visiting for the Christmas holidays - so you may have longer wait times, etc. February is usually when they start to see a slight rise in attendance due to Spring Breaks/kids having time off of school - but that isn't really ramped up until March & April... Also, if people have to choose - more people seemed to be choosing to travel over the holidays when they were already off work maybe, as opposed to spring break time - which attendance was lowered last year. We'll see if that holds true this year.So if your goal is to have less crowds, I would say February would be your better bet. Although something to consider is that they've seen a pretty drastic decline in guests since the recession started - so unlike previous years were around holiday time you might have actually worried about the park filling to capacity (unless it is a primo day like the actual day of the holiday which could maybe still be an issue even during recession). Either way, I would plan the trip around when it's best for your family... but I would go in February if I had to make the choice myself. (On the flip side, it's really neat for kids to visit Disney at Christmas at least once because it is really magical, it was always my favorite time of the year for our Disney trip as a kid. I'm not sure if you've got kids or whatnot... but I personally would choose February because these days I would rather choose fewer crowds over lovely holiday decor.) |

I went last year from dec 16-23 and it still wasn't crowded yet. Maybe if you go during christmas, new yr, it would be super crowded.

I understand from someone who works there that CHristmas to New Year's is the craziest time to go. I was advised not to go during that time even though it is beautiful, I was told to try to come at a different time when it is less crowded.

I went last year during Christmas and New Years... and yes.. it was MAD packed. We were literally, living sardines. However... Epcot's firework display on New Years Eve definitely made it all worth it. =D SO and I had a great time... then came back very poor... LOL

We go the first week of December every year and it is so lovely then. However, the crowds will be lighter during February.

Thanks guys, definitely leaning towards February. There's a promotion to get a free day admission to Disneyworld if you do a day of volunteering that starts on Jan.1, 2010, so that's another benefit.
