Default Do you dress more casually or less casually when you travel?

Do you dress more casually or less casually when you travel?

Maybe it's because I have this attitude that people don't know me and I'll be leaving soon anyway, that I tend to make bolder choices in what I wear. It is also probably because where I currently live, people are dressed quite casually, so I feel a bit self conscious if I look too "overdressed." Also I had been traveling to Europe a lot (for the fashion weeks and to see my now-ex) so there is more of an emphasis on what I should wear.

But, that said, when I visit my parents, I tend to be more creative as well.

Am I the only one who does this?

for me, it depends on where i'm going. i go to costa rica about once a year or once every other year. i stay with friends and it's a third world country, so i try not to wear anything that stands out too much.

when i go to europe, or vegas or florida, i pick more "showy" outfits. i love getting dressed up :)

You know, I went away this weekend and I was so upset because I felt like crap on the airplane...I was wearing the sweats/shirt that most people wear to be comfortable. I HATE not being comfortable on a flight and I'm always warm in these outfits since it's freezing on a plane. I really need to find something that looks better than sweats!
On a plane, I look like crap...after I do tend to wear nicer outfits. I also like to wear dressier outfits because it's not like anyone knows me (when I travel) and I feel that I can do whatever I want. In Italy once I was walking down the street in this pink dress and a french reporter stopped me to interview me for their news tv show.
I would also say there's a huge change in my fashion from warmer to colder weather. If the place I'm visiting is cold...I tend not to dress as nicely (embarrassed to say) but if the place is warm then I have tons of outfits to wear.

It depends....

the past 2 times weve traveled once was to aruba and the last was st. lucia for our honeymoon.... it depends on what we are doing.... if its something nice, like a fancy dinner i tend to dress up more than i normally would being at home! I think i wear more "fun" outfits when we travel!

Oh, less casually for sure. We tend to favor resorts with beaches and pools and fun restaurants, so who needs to dress up there. And sightseeing always involves comfy clothes.

More casual. I don't want to have to take things with me that need ironing or smoothing down. I like in jeans and sundresses.

me too -- i have this morbid fear of crashing and i would hate to die in a tracksuit. for a similar reason, i won't wear anything uncomfortable or impractical (like a short skirt or high heels) -- if the plane crashes and i survive, i want to be prepared to swim, run or claw my way out the wreckage.

Depends, but on the long flights, we get the comfy clothes on first class + anyways, so if you dress uptight, you get a robe anyway :)

depends on where we're going...
costa rica meant cargos and tank tops and keens (the places we went anyway)
jamaica was tank tops and long skirts and summery dresses and flip flops.

I tend to dress the same as when I am at home, I like to feel that I am showing myself in a presentable light no matter where I am. I did read an article once though, that said Australians were the worst dressers when it came to travelling...so maybe while I might think I am dressed OK, others may think differently
