^^^The Westin on Delaware has the distinction of housing most professional sports teams that are in Chicago. When we were there, a Spanish-speaking soccer team was staying there. I've seen basketball teams and others get off buses in front of the Westin and go in.

I've stayed at both the Palmer House & Hotel Burnham in Chicago, and both are great in different ways. The Palmer's lobby is gorgeous in an old-school way, and the Burnham is a fabulous boutique hotel with accommodating service. It's a hard choice, but in the future, I'll probably stay at Hotel Burnham b/c I like smaller boutique hotels.

I am from north of Chicago and when I stay downtown I stay here ^^^.
It is absolutely fabulous as far as ammenities, decor and ambiance in the lounge. I accompany my DH to the city for conferences and this is where we choose to stay. Perfect~ Close to shopping

The Drake is very nice. I never stay there (because I live here), but I frequent Chanel which is in the same building. I also love to go to high tea at the Palm Court, or have cocktails at the Coq d'Or. Here is the site:

It is at the north end of Michigan Ave, at Michigan and Oak.

I stayed at the Millennium Knickerbocker in April and enjoyed it. The room was spacious & comfy and the room service was delicious. It's a block away from Bloomingdales & Chanel. I'm going again in Sept so I've booked the Ritz Carlton since I want to be able to go to the spa.

The Sofitel and The James would be my pick.
My parents lived in the Sofitel before their condo was finished, such a lovely hotel and the service was amazing. We used to live on the corner of State/Erie so anyone visiting us stayed at The James, smallish rooms but really nicely done.

The James is in a great location, 1 block back from Michigan, close to lots of dining and shopping.

We're going with the Sofitel thanks to your reviews and the awesome price right now. You guys rock!

*BUMP*

I’m going to be in Chicago next week for a couple days and am honestly trying to get a good deal on a hotel. Since we will only be in our hotels for the max 5 hours (sleeping), I figured we don’t need an extreme fancy and expensive place. In other words, I would like something cheap or if there are any deals like “buy one get the next night free” kind of deals. I’m not sure if we’re driving or taking the train, but if we’re driving, any hotel in the burbs is okay, around O’hare area (driving from Southern Illinois). We will roughly be right in the heart of downtown.

Thanks

^under $100ish. I know I could get a hotel in the burbs for $80, but am seeing if I can get one closer to the city for the same deal. I doubt it, but it's worth a try

but like I said, we only need it to sleep, shower, and such. we won't be there for more than 5 hours a night.

Oh, and when are you coming/how long are you staying? That way it's easier to figure out the rates.

Occupancy taxes alone make it difficult to stay in the city for >$100. You might try VRBO (VRBO is Vacation Rentals By Owner) if you're open to renting someone's apartment/condo...

yeah, that's true. I remember staying in the burbs (down the street from woodfield mall) And it was $80 a night, with tax about 90ish.

I'm not sure if you'd want to stay at a hostel, it would be two bed - but, the price might be too good to pass up, especially if you'd only be going to sleep and shower.
