Default 3 Days in Berlin ---help me decide what to do?

My husband and I are going to Berlin for 3 days and I'm trying to decide what to do since I know we won't be able to see everything. But for those of you who have been, I'm curious to know what your favorite places to visit were. We are very interested in historical sites and not as much into the club scene (even though Berlin is famous for its clubs). If you have any recommendations they would be greatly appreciated!

If you're able to, join a walking tour! Our 8 hour walking tour was very interesting and we learned lots! Doesn't seem like 8 hours at all... we'd walk, stop, the guide would do some talking, etc. Perhaps after the walking tour you'll get a sense of the different museums you might want to check out.

I went on a weekend break (4 days, 3 nights trip) to Berlin a few yrs back with my mum, we did quite a lot of sightseeing and walking around, and eating!

We got a map from the tourist office, with all the tourist hotspots on and found our way there using public transport.. For us, to see places like Checkpoint Charlie and the remains of the Berlin Wall nearby was really interesting. I also liked going up the TV tower to see the city from above and also going on the Europe's fastest lift!

When we went there, it was the World Cup, the whole city was filled with the World Cup spirit! even tho we are not into football, we still had a really great time! ooh almost forgot to mention the food there was nice. and cheap! don't forget to try the beer, I had a raspberry beer, sounds strange.. but its quite nice and its pink!

Took the words right out of my mouth. The zoo is amazing... you can spend hours there. And the top floor of Ka De We is like a 5 star buffet, lol. SO good. I took so many pictures of just the food

We went on a bike tour of east berlin. That was one of my fave things. GO to the Kudam (the rodeo drive of berlin) for great shopping (or window shopping since the USD to Euro conversion SUCKS!). Check out the turkish areas of berlin for some amazing shishkebob!

I was there last summer at this time and loved it! Definitely check out what everyone else has suggested. (The Jewish Museum is very moving and KaDeWe is fantastic.)

If you're interested in historical stuff, take a walk around East Berlin, specifically Alexanderplatz. It truly let's you see just how different the eastern and western parts of the city are. Also, on some of the small streets around Oranienburgerstrasse, by the Synagogue, you can see bullet holes left from the Battle of Berlin in the facades of buildings that haven't been redone.

The Holocaust Memorial behind Unter den Linden near the Brandenburg Gate has a wonderful museum underneath it that's worth going to. It's very small, but incredibly moving. One of the best I've seen literally in the entire world.

For museums in East Berlin check out everything on Museum Island. The Pergamon-Museum for antiquities and the Alte Nationalgalerie for German impressionists are both great. In west Berlin check out the Gemaldegalerie for European art.

There's always the Reichstag, but I think you need special permission to actually get inside, and the wait to go up to the roof is NOT worth it. It's a nice view of Berlin, and that's about it...

I was there a week, saw all this and more and want to go back and see what I missed! Have an amazing time!!!

I agree! Everyone who goes to Berlin HAS to visit it! It's very nicely done, but you'll be a bit down when you come out... A definite must!
KaDeWe is really cool as well!
When I went, I wasn't able to go to the zoo, but I heard it's really nice.

I love the Berlin zoo and the KaDeWe. I visit those whenever I go to Berlin. The Quartier 206 is great, too.
I agree with everything sweetiegirl said. The "Museumsinsel" is a must. The Jewish Museum is a Must as well. There are lots of Holocaust memorials scattered all over Berlin.

I only stayed 3 days too in Berlin but it was so so hot we just couldn't bear walking anywhere...

We managed to go to Postdam for San Souci Castle...Totally beautiful site...I recommend you go there for sight seeing because not only they have beautiful castle but also massive humungous gardens!

And dont forget to visit Berlin Zoo for the cute "Knut"..

Wishing you a great time :)

I would absolutely recommend taking a bus tour around Berlin! There are plenty of companies out there that do this. I took one and it was probably the most fun thing I did while I was in Berlin. The company I went with is: Berlin City Tour

They have a hop on hop off service where if you want to see more of an attraction (alll the major ones are visited) you may get off the bus and catch the next that comes 30 minutes later. The tours are in both English and German, so you shouldn't have a problem there

The tour takes about 1:45 if you choose not to do the hop on hop off. I didn't but still had enough time to take some great pictures.

The price for my tour was 12€ since I am a student (be sure to bring your ID with you if you are), but regular price for adults is 15€ which is more than fair

I decided to start the tour at the KaDeWe. I had been shopping and when I came out I saw the bus parked in front of the store, so I just hopped on!

PS: I was in Berlin for basically a day and a half and was able to see all of the major sights!
